IMHO the case for changing the set is simple. There is no logic behind keeping a Glasgow city backdrop. When it was first launched, all regional sets had city backdrops. Now, only a few do. I've always thought it wasn't the best of ideas to have a national news programme with a Glasgow focused set. There is already a great deal of resentment in Scotland to what viewers regard as 'Glasgow-centric' news. Rather like in England where there tends to be a perception of London bias. Reporting Scotland generally covers the nation well. The Glasgow set probably causes unnecessary perception problems.
Well they could certainly consider that option. Alternatively, they could just opt for a fake newsroom backdrop. Better still, they could consider a real newsroom backdrop. At £188 million, it might be worth making the glass box pay for itself. PS - Looking forward to seeing this floating in space-like studio being trialled soon.
Tonight's programme was somewhat different to other nights. No wide shots shots of the studio at the opening or close. Could this mean the set has been moved into another studio to allow construction of the new set to take place in Studio C. I also noticed the Barcos seemed squinted tonight. Couldn't really notice it that much with the weather but during the sport it was quite obv. It never use to be... I really think a new set is on the way.
