BBC Scotland’s flagship daily news programme on its new channel will be anchored by two of the country’s leading journalists, Rebecca Curran and Martin Geissler.
Due on air in February next year when the channel will launch, the hour-long news programme will bring national and international news to audiences across Scotland.

Curran, who is currently based in the BBC’s Aberdeen newsroom, and Geissler, who is a news correspondent with ITN, will be the programme’s co-presenters when it broadcasts live daily from the BBC studios in Pacific Quay.

Recruitment drive video posted on LinkedIn, referring to a new "news" channel. I thought it was a general TV channel with an hour-long flagship news programme?

In the context of the cuts announced elsewhere today throwing money at this seems hard to justify.

Is the argument about balancing spend to be more equal to the population across the UK?

Do we think this show will be simulcast on the BBC News Channel?

But a more equal spend across the the UK doesn’t mean better outcomes for viewers across the UK.

Martin Geissler is a big coup for the new channel. He was on STV News, and now ITN. I doubt the current anchors of Reporting Scotland will be happy though.

If this is the “ flagship news programme “, it seems insulting to Reporting Scotland ( not that I’m a fan ). Can someone remind me what time this is going out ?

That is an interesting point. I was under the impression that Reporting Scotland was the flagship programme for BBC Scotland (or it will be until the new programme begins), won't the new programme lessen the impact and recognition Reporting Scotland currently has?

What I'm hoping for is that the new BBC Scotland bulletin is a broadsheet version of Reporting Scotland, while the BBC One bulletin continues to target a broad audience.

Reporting Scotland does not cover international news. This new programme will. I guess similar to the recently ended STV News Tonight.

I don't think the new programme is intended to replace or compete with Reporting Scotland. It is a different angle altogether.

A 9pm placeholding is good for viewers who want a digest of global and local news and maybe devote the rest of the evening to watching a movie of their choice on one of the hundreds of other stations available. Non disruptive viewing.

It'll be interesting to compare the ratings for the Six + Rep Scot, and the Ten + Rep Scot, (both on BBC One Scotland) with the new programme on a less well known channel...
