It's that time of year again where schoolchildren/a good chunk of TV Forum's membership do news reports, and prove year after year that schoolchildren doing journalism as an extracurricular activity just aren't as good as the professionals.

Ricky Boleto from Newsround and a couple of other people I don't recognise (a couple are schoolkids, so I think I can be forgiven not knowing who they are) are hosting the coverage from The One Show studio. The coverage is full of technical problems, just like when they used to do it from N9.

There are mic flags, lanyards, and windshields abound, and the lower thirds appear to be pretty accurate.

Of course not. But it is such a wonderful opportunity that the BBC offer!

Doesn't mean it needs to be broadcast though.

To be fair - it's on Red Button and Online so that other schools can participate, or those pupils participating can be seen by their schools. It's not like it's on BBC One...

In fairness, are you confusing technical problems with schoolkid nerves?

Why not? Its not on mainstream tv and this is about the BBC reaching out for those that want to watch it and know its there....the 1500 schools, the pupils of those schools, and the parents, grandparents family and teachers. Why is it wrong?

No, as I wouldn't class a schoolchild stumbling over the script as a "technical problem", as much as I wouldn't consider a graphics failure a slip-up by the presenter.

As much as it's usually a mixture of normal schoolkids performing as you would imagine and a couple with the strongest/strangest accents ever, there were one or two that I spotted who actually seemed to have quite a bit of innate talent within them - much more than you'd expect.

It's just an experience for them, not a viewing experience for you. As for the strongest accents comment...

I only mentioned accents because the BBC has few people with really distinctive accents. The one that stood out for me this year was what sounded like a very strong Northern Irish-American hybrid accent.

I'm not sure what the first part of your post is referring to, but I'm not denying that School Report is going to be a good experience for schoolchildren.
