There's going to be no familiar faces left at BBC North West at this rate! Noticed they have had Kelly Forran doing the weather this week too. Has she done this before? Mark Edwardson also does the 'This is BBC One in the North West announcements if I'm not mistaken, wonder if the national announcers will begin doing these now. That video clip they released in lockdown with all the NWT team as a 'family' seems rather poignant now.

Yeah I have seen her do bulletins before just not full weather forecasts til recently. Noticed Owain was on Paddy McGunnises new year programme last night. Wonder how long before he is moved on to a BBC presenting role.
Yeah. Kelly has done the weather. And has done breakfast and lunchtime bulletins.

There was a major piece of audience research work done in the 00s by BBC audience research for the English regions and for BBC News around the 1800-1900 news hours, that reported a major preference for double headed bulletins, as they were seen as warmer (presenters bouncing off each other allows for more character to be shown etc.) That drove a number of regions that were single-headed at the time to introduce a co-presenter I believe. This may also have been around the time that the Six was also double-headed - possibly for the same reason.
We don't live in an ideal world, and times change, but there was a reason for the double heading I believe.

Quite, I've no idea why some people think it requires two presenters to present a single half hour bulletin. Many of the BBC regions - the biggest ones, oddly - have had single headed presentation for years

no, that is someone else who still does updates when needed.
As far as on screen staff NWT has lost Dave Guest, Stuart Flinders, Mark Edwardson, Naomi Cornwell, and Peter Marshall. Theres several other newsroom staff gone as well. The operations team has lost 9 full time posts. Regional news is going to be very different soon....

It certainly looks like Owain is branching out beyond NWT. Looking at his Twitter he's been doing some weather stuff for 5Live over Christmas, as well as some English Regions radio specials, a report for the One Show, programmes for Radio Wales and a show for S4C where he is teaching Carol Vorderman to speak Welsh.
When he was based in Leeds he presented a Look North weekend bulletin, and I think he's previously presented Wales Today, and before that he began his career presenting the S4C equivalent of Newsround, so he's probably versatile enough to have a pretty bright career ahead of him now that he is getting national exposure.

Does any of this also impact Breakfast? I thought on the technical side there might be sharing.

They should at least use him to stand in for Carol on Breakfast. He'd probably suit the roll of a roving weather presenter more similar in style to the Aussie breakfast shows and bring some much needed personality to Breakfast.

It would be great to have more of the weather team based in the north. It would be a natural way of it happening but whether Breakfast retains a dedicated presenter longer term who knows though Matt appears more frequently now.

No in so much as breakfast staffing hasn’t changed (yet)
regional news across the board will have to do less with less, until various technology is rolled out it’s going to be a bumpy ride for all...
