Whereas nobody is suggesting they should get rid of everything popular and just show PSB stuff, the football highlights are an increasing elephant in the room.

I’m assuming they attract viewers that wouldn’t watch the BBC otherwise and therefore increases the reach of the channel, but when you look at the cost of the rights, and the cost of the talent involved, and the fact another commercial channel would provide near enough the same service if the BBC didn’t, it’s a discussion that should be had.

Worth remembering that where budgets are 20-25% higher than their factual equivalent that a BBC "hour" is also 20-25% longer than a commercial "hour".

As someone outside the industry though it still amazes me how many people are involved in making what appears to be the simplest of 30 minute programmes. Often there are dozens of names associated with such a programme, although I guess in some cases their work on such a show may be relative brief and as part of a wider portfolio. As much though as there are always efficiency savings to be made it is often also the case that cutting corners shows in the final product too.
Be nicer and more tolerant to each other. Them's the rules.

Whilst I cannot believe that itv have not changed their tariffs sunce 2014 .
This what they have in the website
Peak entertainment is up to £1m
https://www.itv.com/documents/pdf/ITV%20Indicative%20Tariffs%20(1).pdf
Also remember a BBC hour is 58 mins
not the 46 to 48 of a commercial broadcasters
so over 20% more content

Here are the BBC tariffs

They do not seem to be as generous as others say

It's only a matter of time before some genius questions why the BBC are wasting money using electricity when candle light would suffice.

That’s not to say they need to be under resourced, it’s that they should be correctly resourced.

The now almost decimated 16-34 demographic long for the days when when the BBC *was* correctly resourced.

Or why they have programme in HD when SD would be fine.

Not sure people are suggesting that BBC One should have programming budgets on the levels of Channel 4 or even Channel 5, they are much smaller operations
