I don't really like it that much because I think the style is too simular to national news, with red colour scheme;I would want to see something that looks distinctive from national news programs, with a completely different look, perhaps green and white, with perhaps a backdrop of a (real) window looking out from the studio, giving nice views, not some webcam.
Also the fonts are bad, with them not being changed for quite a long time and not looking very good either, and the astons are too conservative and boring,I've seen mocks here that are better looking and more modern.
(BTW Can anyone tell me where you get the font that is used in the astons for BBC Sport please)
well the reason for the bbc to have the same look across the regions was the fact that regional news wasnt getting enough viewers when they have thir own looks. so they unified the look so everyone can say that the programe is part of BBC News, same with ITV
In the North West the BBC provies a higer quality News service and has done for many years, yes they did have rather poor presentation at times and the show felt stuffy, but it lived up to it's missions, to bring people the main News for the North West. They don't tend to make up stories, though they have the odd story that isn't really News, such as "Cowboy Builders" and what have you.
Though Granada has given us an improved service in the last few years, sometimes they let themselves go, when the Headlines are usually stuff that hasn't made the News, let me explain. Such as "An ITV survey has shown that.....", "Binge Britain", "Try and find an NHS Dentist", their top headline tonight was rather pathetic, which was the closure of the Strawberry Fields Care Home in Liverpool, mainly because The Beatles mentioned it in a song! ITV can do better than this, I'm certain other ITV regions have the same sort of things too, London Tonight again is another programme like this.
London Tonight was much better as a news programme when it was made by LNN. Now it just appeals to the lowest common denominator with constant consumer stories.
I didn't make much of either London regional news tonight. Both very...well...weird.
Alistair Stewart keeps getting more and more like your mad uncle as the day goes on, and Emily announced on BBC London tonight that she had "always wanted to be a gay icon."
Is this the world of journalism I'm hoping to enter!?

It wasn't that great under the later LNN days. Back in 1993 when it launched it was excellant
Well, Meridian News decended overnight from being one of the most respectable regional news services to being a technical shambles, so my vote would be going to the BBC if it weren't for the fact that Meridian News' content is still superior to that of South Today. For now, at least...

i do lioke Granada reports now that lucy and tony are a team, the rest of rhe repoertes aer mioserable and stale part form the female eith the black air shes wuite good
Gordon is getting old and stale and well ios not really the best presenter. But sine themusic and the set very much the nice revamp to look like LDN it has improved and got out of that stuffy stuido which i call a box set, and now it look much more professional and suits the North WEST much more. I like the hwole presenattion althogu thre are some good presenetrs including Nigel Jay and the wonderful Anabelle TIFFIN WE NEVER SEE ENOUGHT OF THEM.!!!!
nigel was on last weekend and was very good, he has been there for many years. for midlands west Midlands is MUCH better for quality and style. the presenters in the east are pretty miserable and too serious for regional tv
I do like Spotlight, professional and well done very west country like i like it.
ItV is a bit off sincde the merger the whole regional identity of news is lost and all looks too samey, with the BBc the unifomed look seems to be going into a do their own style again. with new studios and differnt credits/music adn studio styles.
BBC for me
Over here in the east, Anglia Television have an advantage over BBC Look East as they provide a complete “duel” news service and Look East provides a 6.30 opt out and a 10.30 complete bulletin from Cambridge. Ironically it seems that Look East in terms of viewing figures and content provide a superior service to the west of the region than Anglia. Anglia News tends to border on the human-interest style of stories whilst Look East stories are more “issue” based. Look East also mainly reflects both sides of the region equally in its non news stories which is not the case with Anglia’s (mainly co produced) regional programmes which are very Norfolk / Suffolk focused.

For me, the most bewildering decision made when moving to ITN was not to employ Anna Maria Ashe, Paul Green and Marcus Powell.
Also, the decision to become more tabloid clearly remains a mistake: BBC London almost constantly gains higher ratings than London Tonight.
I think the peak for London Tonight was around 1998, when the programme had decently produced news and features and interesting features about culture andthe arts.
I especially miss the 13:00 edition of London Today: great presenter, hard news and often a live performance at the end!
