I'm already assuming that this latest reassertion of totally uniformity across the English Regions will start to drift apart within a couple of years or so (as always), due to the usual "fiefdom" syndrome.
You're giving it a couple of years?
Well, I did say "within". Which could mean e.g. Tuesday 16th July 2019.
Who calls the shots on a decision to update the titles of a BBC local news programme... is it local editors/managers?
I'm guessing the new look (i.e. with Reith) across all regions will have been imposed upon them by a network manager?
This time as part of the Reith rebrand each region has been given the kit of parts to update the titles whenever they wish. The shots included in the sequence can therefore be seasonal, special (for a one off) or daytime/nighttime/dusk etc. The sequence is
much
more easy to edit than previous looks were. I’m sure they’re keen for everyone to stick to the basic look but are happy for decisions on the shots included to be down to the regional teams.
Not quite regional news, but as I never catch Sunday Politics I'm a bit boggled to see that it's still in SD (coming from the Midlands today). Is that down to studio equipment or more to do with link logistics?
It must be one of the few remaining times SD is upscaled on BBC HD, I assume?
All the regional operations using early 90s equipment I think they all need upgrading to 21st century standards.
They were all upgraded in the 2000's, when the old analogue tape based set ups were replaced with digital infrastructure and nonlinear server based production
Some have been since been refitted totally - London and Salford moved in to new buildings alongside national news operations, and Plymouth had a major rebuild.
