I think all these title sequences have their roots in 2002 (and even further, 1999 - the spinny maps).
I don't think we've seen the new regions titles anywhere yet, but I'll assume it's a hybrid of the 2008 style - by hearing the phrase 'easier to edit' it doesn't inspire me with confidence, sounds very much like the old BBC London titles from 2005 or the regions titles from 2002, I felt both of these were very dull.
Unless the actual animation of the titles is now a tga or png sequence and the region simply inserts their clips below the template and animates them thus reducing render time and the ability for regional programmes to make mistakes.
