I guess as 5live is a news station, It belongs here.

Just thought its rather funny tonight on the Stephen Nolen show, now I have always thought Mr Nolen is a right asshole, but tonight its cracking me up! He introduces a caller, 'Good evening ...' caller replies... 'Hello there'. There is tehn a long pause, and Stephen then yelling 'Hello, can you here me' and then caller replies ' can you here me?' and during this, Stephen Nolen said ' Im affraid we have lost him... onto our next caller'.

Sorry it just made me laugh!

I say bring back Phil Williams in this slot, he coped better!

Edit: Chris Rogers is back doing the news on 5live Surprised

Mr Nolan is one of the most dedicated people in radio. If he's not doing his Mon to Thur radio show on BBC Radio Ulster, he's away in UK doing the 3 nights of five live radio on Fri Sat and Sun.

Then he's got his TV show at night coming back in the beginning of Nov not to mention the other endless rates debate he does.

Very dedicated man to his work!

I have never heard so many telephone system problems as there are during Stephen Nolan's programme. Either his producer is rubbish at using the equipment or Stephen is very unlucky.

Here is a very funny clip I kept of his show from August 2005...

Im not saying he is a poor presenter, I was just commenting on the awfuly poor tech problems, and the funny Telephone Line issues. It really does make me laugh.

Great clip DAS! Laughing Some of the outtakes on the 5live website are quite funny too.

Does this show now come from Manchester?

Used to come from Birmingham.

Yep, Good old Phil Williams came from Birmingham, and so did Stephen Nolen for a while. Dont know when they moved however.

Going onto Up All Night, great 1am TOTH, making a joke out of the extended 5 hour show due to the clocks going back!

Actually Phil Williams has never been the permanent presenter of that slot.

But it was previously from Birmingham with Edwina Currie, then Richard Bacon, before Nolan.

I presume that the move to Manchester made sense since Five Live are due to move to Manchester in the coming years (or maybe not!) and it's closer to Belfast from where Nolan commutes each week.

I thought Phil Williams was!? He presented the slot from around April/May - Late Summer 2005.

The problems Nolan has with the phones are nothing to do with him, or his producer. The answer is because the technical set up in Manchester is really, really crap.

Although the show comes from Manchester, all the phones and lines come though a London studio.

If anyone one here knows anything about 'clean feed', you'd know about the nightmare this causes.

It's a bit mad that he flies into Manchester from Belfast every week whenever there are perfectly good studios in Broadcasting House in Belfast.

But presumably there is more to the show than the presenter? If the producers are based in Manchester, presumably they would have to relocate to Belfast as well, or be replaced with a Belfast-based production team, or they would have to fly the other way?
