In terms of those missing from the list (and there are quite a few) I believe it's primarily down to them being contractors. Jackie Bird in Scotland is reportedly earning over 200k and hasn't made the list.

But aren't some of the ones in the list? Gary Lineker isn't staff, he's a contracted freelancer

Well it's not up to the people to decide if there overpaid, if the market says there worth xxxx amount well that the case then;. I bet ITV and sky have higher wage bills.

Also doing the maths Mr evans will only take home about 54% or £1,070,676.48, his tax bill is Taxes 44% ;£885,800.00 and his NI 2%
£43,523.5.

What many fail to realise (including accountants) is that cost and value are rarely the same, and can be very very different, (as anyone who has had a perfectly running 20 year old car written off, will tell you)

Back in the 90s the value of Cilla Black and Michael barrymore resulted in them having big wages, I bet Kay at Sky news is also has value to to sky news. you mean like that?

Yes, sort. For 2 million quid, Chris Evans pulls in 10 million listeners. Not bad, 20p per listener.
Chris Evans can't do brain surgery, or fly an A380. Others can, but quite a few others can, so they are paid less.
Chris Evans is very good at being Chris Evans, and is probably the only person in the world that is.

Also no one from kids tv

They only get pocket money, and whatever they can earn on a paper round.

Blue Peter pays around £25,000-£30,000 a year.

Is that part of the reason why it was moved away from London?

I keep on forgetting all those high paid stars are in London, where everything costs more.

I remember watching a behind the scenes strand on CBBC which showed that a few of the presenters (including Dick and Dom) shared a house that looked like something out of The Young Ones. At the time I was amazed they didn't all have penthouse suites and chauffeur driven limos to work rather than catching the tube.

I think they started sending cars for CBBC announcers after one was very badly beaten one morning walking into work.

I think it's rather surprising that the top earning sports presenter earns more than the next 7 highest earning sports presenters combined. And that a football pundit, not a presenter, is the joint 10th highest paid person at the BBC.

Shearer probably on significantly less than Hansen was though.

On the whole though nothing their for licence fee payers to be outraged about other than the leverage it now gives talent in negotiations with the BBC, meaning ultimately this process will see talent costing the BBC more rather than less.

Looking at sport Clare Balding seems rather underpaid on that list for example. Surprised after Lineker and Barker that Jason Mohammed is next, but he also does a daily show on Radio Wales. Chappers could front Match of the Day for significantly less than Lineker, but I think making these details public make such cost efficiencies less likely rather than more likely.

Radio presenters must rack up many hours a year so their salaries are 'good value' to some degree. Not sure that Nick Grimshaw should be so far in front compared to Mills or James though.

Ben Brown being on the list is a shock, as is Louise Minchin not being on the list, I suppose she only works three days a week and won't have London weighting.

The likes of Gary Lineker are the worst value considering he appears once a week during the football season, but of course he is in demand, as is Shearer. I'm sure Sky offer them both high amounts every year.

I'm not sure the 'gender pay gap' is a big a deal as the press are making out, unless they were doing exactly the same role. It was mentioned that Huw Edwards gets more than Fiona Bruce, but you'd expect that, as he's chief anchor and Fiona mostly only does Fridays. I'm also not surprised that Gary Lineker gets more than Sue Barker, as he does more than she does.

As mentioned earlier, the lack of foreign correspondents is surprising. I would have thought the likes of Lyse Doucet, Fergal Keane, Frank Gardner, Carrie Gracie and James Landale would easily have featured in the 150k bracket but it appears the dangerous life of a foreign corr is not necessarily a well remunerated one...(relative to their colleagues of course!)

At Cambridge 105, we decided to release details of all our presenters salaries, as we thought it was fair to do so after the BBC released their info today.

...I can tell you for a fact that all the presenters are not on over inflated salaries. The similarity with the BBC is that some of our presenters have a few extra noughts on the end. Our Breakfast presenters receive a salary of £0,000,000 whereas our Drivetime presenter receives £000,000. I was gutted as Afternoon presenter I had even less noughts on the end.
