Live at five with Jeremy
No major surprises for me except for the inflated salaries of Eddie Mair and Jeremy Vine. Interesting that Nick Robinson is indeed in a higher band that Mishal Hussein as was discussed earlier in the thread. I would have expected to see more BBC News Presenters/Correspondents in the 150-199 category. A few who spring to mind are Simon McCoy, Carrie Gracie, Fergal Keane and Lyse Doucet.

Of course some talent get to benefit from the BBC platform to increase their profile and then their leverage in the commercial sector. So best of both worlds.

Is there talent within this list that is on a 'golden-handcuffs' BBC deal or don't they do those anymore ?

A few surprises there, in particular Jeremy Vine being the top news earner. He had to rather awkwardly cover it a little while ago on Radio 2. Nick Grimshaw is a bit of a surprise, £350k just for the Radio 1 Breakfast Show and a bit of Glastonbury each year?

Interesting that Louise Minchin is not on the list, but Dan and Naga are.

Another shock is Gary Barlow - £250k to promote his musical on TV for 8 weeks!

Not a surprise. Obviously Dan's work with BBC Sport is included, and Naga's Sunday religious/ethics type chat show gets them over the £150,000 bar.

Mel is on there but not Sue, must be the Eurovision gig

Also no one from kids tv

Don't forget Mel also hosted Let It Shine.

Kids TV hosts aren't in high demand, there's little risk of them being poached by any of the commercial kids channels because they hardly make any original shows. What the public need to understand (but they won't) is that these people have to be offered high wages because they'll just go elsewhere where they be offered a decent rate. Ultimately we'll be the ones to miss out because the stars are only going to demand even higher salaries to stay at the BBC when the commercial broadcasters come knocking.

If hosting a religious show once a week (which I believe Naga has now left) gets you over the £150k mark, sign me up now!

I would have thought the other BBC Breakfast presenters would have appeared somewhere near the bottom of the list.

I also thought Laura K would be earning more - she probably would earn more if she happened to be male it seems.

The BBC seem to pay good money to all their employees. If those details came out, they would be more interesting. We always knew the big names were on big money.

They only get pocket money, and whatever they can earn on a paper round.

Lastly were inevitably going to have what we think of the person coming into it, so whatever Laura Kuensberg is paid I will likely think well shes one of the best in her field but whatever Chris Evans is paid Im going to think what a waste of money..

That's irrelevant as it's down to personal taste, and of course those who are highly thought of aren't necessarily those who bring in the greatest numbers. The above two personalities being a good example of that

I absolutely agree with you that's the point I was making... all this will turn into is 'This person isn't worth that' because of our our own personal subjectivities. Nothing to do with the impact of said talent.

Not entirely surprised that Nik Grimshaw is on there. The strategy over the last few years at the BBC has been to reduce costs by a certain percentage. Given that Nik was taking over from Chris Moyles, who was understood to be on £1m plus, that's still a big cost saving.

The vast majority of the revelations aren't that surprising and a few definitely earn their wages. However, I'm inclined to agree that Gary Barlow should not be taking those kind of sums for occasional TV work.

In terms of those missing from the list (and there are quite a few) I believe it's primarily down to them being contractors. Jackie Bird in Scotland is reportedly earning over 200k and hasn't made the list.

I think it's rather surprising that the top earning sports presenter earns more than the next 7 highest earning sports presenters combined. And that a football pundit, not a presenter, is the joint 10th highest paid person at the BBC.

There's one kids tv presenter who could possibly be earning that much as 150k as he does about 4 different series for Cbeebies (in fact all 4 are shown every day) but I suppose they weren't all made in the same year.
