It would be a shame if he had gone

I hope it is Philip Hayton that's gone. He was a boring newsreader in fact my least favourite male newsreader (although Chris Lowe was hardly better) and when he was with Joanna Gosling that pairing was unbearable, they were so dull and boring. I'd be happy to say goodbye to Philip and bring in Tim Willcox or Simon McCoy. The only thing I did like about Philip Hayton was his accent - perfect for imitations.

Has anyone got an update on Mr Hayton?

I don't think anyone has offically confirmed it yet, but he has not appeared since it was announced, and I think most others have.

I might give BBC a call and see what they say... will call BBC Information on 08700 100 222.

Go via the 020 8743 8000 switchboard and save paying premium rate for a national call.

If you're on BT, the 020 will be five-and-a-half pence for an hour, against eight pence a minute for the 0870.

Isn't an 08700 number a 'national rate number' meaning that it costs the same regardless of area. So essentially people in London won't get it cheaper because they're local?

But I think the point Nick was making (correctly as ever...) is that that was the idea behind the 0870 / 0845 type numbers. But with BT pricing changes, it's no longer the same price to call a 'national-rate' number as calling a national number, like 020.

Got to love the logic of it all...

Indeed, Steve.

This is a good web site for those interested.

He wasn't on last weekend but that may have been a holiday. I really hope so, he's excellent.

The other week they had a camera on Air Force One and were waiting for US President Bush to disembark. While we were waiting Chris spoke interestingly and at length about what Bush had been up to recently and about the visit while waiting for him to appear. Eventually he said, "We're going to leave the coverage there otherwise we'll be waiting all night, We'll catch up with Mr Bush later!".

Seems to be a lot of messing around recently though, Jane hasn't been on, neither has Chris Easkin, Peter Dobbie's been popping up all over the place, Eakin was on Saturday Breakfast.
