Thoughts came up after watching promo:
Will BBC Arabic TV get new look and sound?
Will both BBC News channel and BBC World News drop current countdown sequence with red data streams?
All that, after Jan 14.
Speaking of Arabic TV's music, what it would sounds like if David Lowe worked for BBC Arabic?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyo0RAkDIR8

Really, the Persian countdown visuals, that's what the countdowns of BBC News and BBC World News should have been, but with numbers. Instead we're stuck with nothing but live action shots and data streams.

is this due to change in the future or not?
Very unlikely to, the budget is relatively tight. Particularly in the case of content that has come from the wider BBC, this has to be licensed through Worldwide and the money only goes so far. One particular property cost them an awful lot of cash even without streaming !
The situation is the same for the small amount of feature output on Arabic TV and hasn't changed since the launch last March.

Arabic are adopting the corporate branding but I can't comment as to exactly when. It's a bit sad that the package is going as it is very well liked by everyone and always attracts positive comments from people who haven't seen the channel before.
As for News Channel and World, it would be nice, wouldn't it !
Latest news on the launch front is that the promo film will start playing out from Bush House at some point tomorrow morning, probably earlier rather than later.

Could someone record the audio loop? I'm intrigued. Any news on when the link for the live stream will go up on the Persian website?
Found a link (Click here). Not very long though.
Also, another clip. (Click here)
Also, a thank you to Bvsh House for all of your useful information leading up to the launch. Thanks!

There has been a lot of doom and gloom around PTV about the rights situation online, but things aren't quite so bad. Only one in-house programme has complete online embargo (sports), the youth/music programmes will be streamed out live - and have an edited version made available on-demand which will have the 'commercial discs' removed if they don't have the on-demand rights. Everything else goes up.
The rights on the projector slot (Persian documentary) will depend on what is negotiated with each one.
This leaves the BBC Worldwide content, most of which is too expensive to licence with the limited budget available.
For some reason the schedules have not gone up online yet so I can't really discuss how the minutes breakdown just yet.

As has been said, don't expect to see much of the non-news content online once the channel launches - the web feed will change to a ticker as hardly any of it is rights cleared for streaming.

Now, I've clearly not been paying attention when the branding was all explained to me, because I was expecting one big brand across all of Global News. Something like how the N&R branding relates to BBC News Channel perhaps? This hasn't happened becuase BBC World Service channels are quite different to BBC World News, they don't even use the globe. This isn't a bad thing, as I think the WS branding looks better. But it was unexpected when I first saw it a few months back.
As an aside, does anyone has the South Today titles handy? A comparison of the shots of the Spinnaker Tower next to the Burj Al Arab Tower in the Persian titles might be worth a laugh

If you really want to recreate it, here's how you might go about it:
Record a clean chunk of the BBC News bulletin headlines bed on minidisc
Top and tail so it loops cleanly
Hit play and repeat1 on the minidisc player
Hope your minidisc player does not die between now and when a proper promo with audio gets played out instead.
Not that you would ever find it happening like that in Bush House, that's just an example of how one might do it
Oh, and the links are all in Topcat AFAIK, no idea why they have not been published yet. I saw the stream working earlier in the week when I was sent to link to watch the end to end test, so it's just a matter of someone hitting publish on the appropriate page.

BBC Persian website has added more content on the upcoming launch of the channel tomorrow... i'm getting really excited on how it will look like.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/persian/iran/2009/01/090108_persian_tv_photo.shtml
some photos in the studio and in the gallery, and it's digital... i guess.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/persian/tv/2009/01/090109_pic_tv_presenters.shtml
a short bio of their presenters, in farsi though...
-----------
when is the exact time of the launch?
will it be 1000GMT just like BBC Arabic?
EDIT: ok... seen the past replies. 1330GMT...
why follow Tehran time, if the channel may not be legally available in Iran?
