Were the numbers only on the countdown for the launch? Or have they been there for the TOTH each time?

for what i've monitored, the persian numbers are for the launch only.
i really wish that they just retained that, it actually looks good...

Bit late I know... but I really like the graphics on this. I actually like the sort of blurred blue/and/red world replacement 'orb' in the middle, makes a nice change from the cliche, and I think the graphics are really punchy, the way it zooms-and-cuts reminds me of the old 1999 era of BBC News.

Why is it that every other channel that the BBC has better than BBC World News? Laughing

BTW the translation of the text at the end of the coundown directly before the headlines is "Welcome to BBC Persian". Smile

And the logo at the end of the opening titles actually says "BBC NEWS" and not BBC Persian (the red dog also says "BBC NEWS"). The text at the end of the news hour opening titles is "60 minutes - BBC NEWS."

which is correct, strange though Arabic looks different from Persian, what happened to consistancy!

Well the branding and graphics for both BBC WS channels look totally different to each other.

remember BBC South East Today has the older Lambie Nairn branding for quite awhile before it adopted later BBC News Branding. The same will be the case of Arabic, as it has only recently (albeit 10 months) launched. THe new style will be adopted eventually.

As has been mentioned quite frequently here before, all of the above mentioned brands (BBC Alba, BBC Persian/Farsi etc.) are all part of the wider non-English language BBC branding, which also includes the smaller BBC Turkish-language service, and will probably eventually also include the BBC Arabic and BBC Newyddion Welsh-language services as well.

They look the same because they are both part of the wider Lambie-Nairn brand identity developed for non-English language services. (I think the aim was for them to work with Roman and non-Roman script and be a bit more "global" in feel)

Not sure I see that small domestic services like BBC Alba and BBC Newyddion have much in common with BBC Arabic and BBC Persian/Farsi though - and it is a real pity that the Lambie-Nairn branding is a bit wishy-washy (and looks quite cheap) in comparison to the much stronger current BBC Arabic brand, which has higher production values and much greater visual impact. (Whilst a huge fan of David Lowe's news music, I also think that the current BBC Arabic music is very strong)

Perhaps this is how BBC Chinese might look like! If there are even any plans to begin with. Laughing

BBC Arabic launched early, before the new Foreign Language Branding had been finalised. Arabic will have matching branding soon enough

Sounds unlikely, but if it did the text would be written downwards!

Not necessarily. Yes usually the text is written in columns in a grid, but on TV and in Videogames etc, they usually go in a left to right fashion.
