Looking pretty good so far. Nice to see them do as good a job as anyone could with the Lambie Nairn BBC Global identity... (Crying shame that the Lambie Nairn branding is so insipid in comparison to the much stronger BBC Arabic in-house branding)

it seems that BBC Persian's entertainment programmes are being blocked on the Live Stream... i guess the Live Stream is only intended for NEWS, but please post it here if they show Click, HARDtalk or any other programmes.

So that's what it was. I nearly filled up my harddrive recording the audio bed during the blockage.

Is it me or is the TOTH countdown at half past the hour GMT?

^ i guess they are following either Tehran or Kabul time... which has + :30 on their timezone...

If anyone can capture some Full Broadcast Quality video of BBC Persian's titles, idents, stings etc, they will come in handy if I try to create animations in the new Worldwide Style...

It was in error. It is true that the feature programmes cannot be broadcast for on-demand use due to copyright reasons but they can be TX'ed on the live stream.

Hopefully ALL feature programmes will be on the live stream soon

Yes but of course it's actually top of the half-hour int he UK due to the extra half-hour time difference in Tehrhan. Hence the countdown at 30 past and the summary at the top of the hour.

Why don't BBC Persian or BBC Arabic broadcast in 16:9 on Hotbird? It's a shame they're in 4:3. Will BBC Persian eventually go 24/7, like BBC Arabic (hopefully) is soon?

Bvsh House, what did everyone you have talked to think of today's launch? Did everything go to plan? I think it will do well.

This is what is consistent with other channel providers in the terratory. The Persian and Arabic galleries are 16:9 already, and the web streams are 16:9, so a move to widescreen in the future on satellite probably isn't a huge technical challenge in the future if the market changes.


No plans for Persian at the moment. But in the future...

I was expecting an announcement on Arabic already, no idea why it has been held up.


Was at the launch event and everyone was happy. I can't think of any big problems - although I watched it off air like everyone else here as I wasn't involved in the launch process.
