It's been a while since we last talked about BBC Persian/BBC Farsi, and the upcoming channel. This is a new topic, as the last one was archived.

Having a quick search, the same person (Tarek Atrissi) who designed the Arabic typeface has also designed the Farsi typeface. Here are some links and images that may interest you:

Further indications as to when the channel will start:

The free-to-air channel will launch around the turn of the year

After several failures in launching the station, its directors decided to officially inaugurate the TV concurrent to Christmas 2009. However, based on the evidence, and in view of the extensive changes and developments that are now taking place in the British state media, its seems improbable that the BBC Persian TV programmes would be aired earlier that March 2009 (late 1387 Iranian calendar)

The studio has been designed by Jago Design, like the other BBC News studios.

Does anyone else have any other information?

Farsi and Arabic use the same script; the only difference is that Farsi has a few additional letters.

Very interesting photos, BTW!

Where is the music link? I can't find it in the links above, actually. Does BBC Arabic also have a countdown with countdown music?

The music sounds like the current BBC News music, the countdown is much better then World/NC and sounds completely different to Arabics.

There are short samples of the music used on videos from the BBC Persian website (Click here).

Here are a couple of reports that have the music and graphics on them:

I don't know about the countdown. How have you managed to see it, the eye?

Knowing the eye, the music has most likely leaked, and that's how he has heard it. Maybe he has even seen some of the rehearsal recordings

Interesting that in in the fourth photo down, the bold headline top left spells the president's name Ahmedi Nejad, as I think only the FT does in the English language media, when all the others - including the BBC in this country - spell it as one word. You'd think they'd be able to get it right! (Or that I should get a life.)

No, the music has not been leaked, and nor have I seen any recordings!

It has been put back for quite a few months now. Part of the problem was because Iran wasn't allowing the station to launch because it didn't have a license, amongst other problems, I'm sure. When it was first planned, it was estimated the channel would launch early in 2008.

Just look at Arabic, though. After all the delays, it certainly paid off in making a great news channel.

When will Arabic be adopting the LN branding, and going 24-hours? Will Persian eventually go 24/7?

Imagine a rather long BBC News English regions title sequence and your getting warmer Wink
