Can anyone tell us the current status of TC1? It's quite surprising that they're giving such a big studio for BBC Persian.

I was making a joke.

A rolling eyes emoticon would have been helpful at the end of your sentence. I skim read this thread and was confused by your post until I took a second look at it.

Not my problem - it's far too obvious and I was making the joke off the back of another.

Clearly it wasn't obvious, as people have been confused. Sarcasm seldom works on the internet, unfortunately. Without hearing your tone of voice, your sentence could be taken literally. I stand by my suggestion that a emoticon would have helped.

I don't think anyone could seriously believe a suggestion that TC1 at TV Centre was being used for the BBC Farsi service... I think an emoticon is totally redundant. (There have been many discussions about Farsi being co-sited with Arabic at Egton)

hmm bars showing BBC TC1 aren't going to be ambiguous are they? Couldn't possibly be confused with the output of a certain big studio.

The WS probably helps indicate it is World Service, though it is a really dumb bit of labelling. First rule of identing any signal is you should always imagine it can get as far away from the building as possible - like Tokyo or Sydney!

My guess is that it stands for Test Card 1? (Though it isn't really a test card - so is incorrectly named.)

Yes, I know that - I've been to Television Centre and have seen TC1. However, for people who haven't visited TVC and/or have little knowledge of studios there, 'TC1' means absolutely nothing. Jugalug's sentence could be taken as though he believed this. Granted, I'm sure he's much more intelligent than that, yet with anonymous written communication, one can never be too sure. As I said last night, I can't stand sarcasm on the internet (or in real life, if I'm honest) because it just doesn't work.
