I agree with the other remarks here that the new graphics are a step up from the old set, and do suit the channel quite well. The only thing I would have changed is to put the Live and Subtitles tag in with the other graphics:

I think the live would look better the other side of the date.

I'm considering turning it into a full-on mock/recreation. If I do so, I'll take that on board.

I don't like white bands filling the bottom of the screen.

Didn't like it when Sky got one, didn't like it when BBC News got one, don't like it now BBC Parliament has got one.

So what would you do instead?

I don't think "S" on it's own is obvious that it relates to Subtitles. Personally, I'd stick to the full word. Of course, CBBC used to like calling them Subs.

That's probably a bit too modern/informal for BBC Parliament.

I presume the white bar is where the ticker will go when they decide/need to use one, unless they decide to go the full hog and make it a flipper. Time will tell.

I'm not sure if I'm completely correct here, but I think the system BBC Parliament uses for its graphics is the same as was used by BBC News in N6 TVC prior to the NBH move, and it's probably quite old - I don't know if it would work or be feasible to do a flipper here, simply because of this technical limitation.

Pretty sure you're right and its just a repurposed Viz Engine/server and other related equipment from TVC. They switched to the Viz graphics almost a year after News moved to NBH, replacing what looked like Aston generated graphics (which had been bodged together a few months before with Helvetica to look similar to the 2013 BBC News lower thirds at the time. The 'Live' DOG remained in Gill if I remember rightly and didn't get updated). It looked a complete mess and almost as bad as what a region would conjure up!

I'm glad they kept the music, it's simply gorgeous.

Flipped over to Parliament today and I don't know when it happened but it's now started looking like BBC News again. Went back through the iPlayer to get these and took some screenshots:

No changes to the ident or the music, but the graphics have been adjusted.

Based on previous history this is how it will look for the next 3 years and it will be out of sync with BBC News's own look by the end of the year Wink

Only change i would make adding the time by the date

On this S identifier for subtitles, is the resemblance to the icon for subtitles on iPlayer any coincidence?

They could put the LIVE over the top of the date, the date doesn't need to be there if it's live and I assume the only reason it's not incorporated into the graphics is because it's generated seperately.
