Holyrood and the Search for Scotland's Soul

(wonderful programme ... It's on now again in the loop! Very Happy )

For the inquisitve, the list of showings ... from BBC Programmes ...shows that it has had or will have had 48 showings all but one on BBC Parliament since 28th June 2009.

The feeds from within Parliament are provided by Bow Tie TV. Production of BBC Parliament used to be contracted to Millbank Studios - an ITV company - but was recently taken in-house to a gallery in the BBC part of 4 Millbank.

Just a thought, and a completely obsurd random one at that...but what about a name change for BBC Parliament, to erm, BBC Democracy Live...tie it all in, you know what Auntie is like about BBC News et al....ok, maybe not?!

EDIT...also noticed this on the press release

Quote:
Democracy Live at Westminster is produced from a newly-built newsroom jointly with the digital TV channel BBC Parliament.

Did the BBC acquire more space at Millbank, or is this elsewhere, anybody know?!

Oh god, then we'd get another BBC News Channel style mess of a name... the BBC Democracy Live Channel.

Very little of BBC Parliament is live. In a typical 168hrs week, only 33hrs or so of it is actually live coverage from the Commons. The other 135hrs is effectively repeats of the House of Lords, PMQs, the Select Committees, repeats of BBC Two's lunchtime showings, overhangs from BBC News, the odd history programme, the A-Z of Parliament series and the odd random filler or three.

On that basis I fail to see how the name "BBC Democracy Live" can have any relevance to all of that. Now that being said, the BBC have launched a website called Democracy Live. http://news.bbc.co.uk/democracylive/hi which has a clever feature to search video clips for spoken words.

Why is BBC Parliament not covering this weekend's Conservative Party Conference from Brighton? I was just watching BBC News and they dipped into Ken Clarke's speech. They stayed with it while he was attacking Gordon Brown but as soon as he moved on to discuss Conservative policy (the lack of which the party has been criticised for by the media) they moved on to the Chile earthquake. I switched over to BBC Parliament, fully expecting the speech to be receiving uninterrupted coverage, only to find recorded coverage of the Welsh Assembly!!

Only one conference per party per year is covered by the channel.

Only one conference per party per year is covered by the channel.

And which one has that been this year?

Why only one?
