The minute summary idea is admirable and in theory, an excellent idea for BBC One however the first one did seem very chummy. I'm probably not the target audience as I can quite happily watch the Ten without falling asleep but I think most people can get through a short summary without the need of phrases like "still no good news from Portugal, I'm afraid". Give the news straight and let the viewer express the emotion.

I caught tonights and it seemed ok but the latter half came across as news which no-one would really care about. One '...and finally' fair enough but not half the bulletin.

It could be tightened up though by removing the waffle at the start and the plugs at the end.

One of the correspondents further up in this thread actually summed it up perfectly - it comes across as News in the style of Hello! Magazine or Chat! Magazine or some other fluffy conduit.........

It is too cosy for comfort IMO and comes across as very patronizing. I still say it should be ditched.

It's current format should certainly be ditched - it actually reminds me of the celebrity news extracts seen on Channel 4 flop Ugly Betty.

As for the comments about it's being bias, well, whilst it is probably too little to brand it as being bias - I certainly have to agree with James that it seems patronising in it's attempt to be 'personal' .

I like the update mock but the opening and closing titles need to be a tad faster I reckon and the graphic changing. Remember folks, this isn't really for us news fanatics. It's for people who don't watch the news and will get a quick jist of it.

I think I saw someone suggest Huw Edwards to do this bulletin but secretly, I don't think he is happy about this trail because he thinks news needs abit of anaylis and seriousness, not a 60 second slap on the face of abrieveted words on the news.

I just checked the youtube clip and thought it was ok -nice and pacey but not too rushed - i think the point is to refresh people of the headlines and remind them to switch to n24 if required.

much better to have this than trailers for upcoming progs imho - maybe if the beeb really want to rile people they can squeeze it besides the end credits of the preceeding programme thus saving the 60 secs Smile)

I think anything that cuts out trails would be welcomed in the junctions... should be a maximum of one trail before and after every programme. This would allow more of the following useful things to be aired:

News Summaries
Transmitter Information
Menus

I like the idea of the summary and let's give them chance to experiment before making our minds up totally.

I would love to see the return of UK TODAY - that was a great part of News 24 and much better to have that instead of awful BBC London News... that red box and presenters legs wide open is not a good look.

Does anyone have either a YouTube/Real Player/WMA file of the Midlands 8pm opt because I haven't seen one yet?
