they were having the studio's annual lighting grid safety checks. All lights have to be removed, the grid checked then everything re lit. Directed from the usual gallery in Manchester.

I don't recall this happening last year, or did they not move to Liverpool last year?

I've literally just caught the last second of NWT during Breakfast and it appears the Blue in the studio has gone and it's now red.

I was hoping that would happen. Laughing

Eeek, the red is very dark and dingy, doesnt look good on the wide shot.

I was expecting a bright red like when they had that Elvis impersonator on (still on bbcnwt's youtube channel).

Looks like my prayers were answered. It does look much better - the blue wasn't too bad with the 2007 look on the screens, but the 2008 is so white there was hardly any red on the set.

Now they just need to change that picture of Salford to the live Oxford Road picture.

Does seem a bit dark overall. Needs lighting a little I think.

That looks so much bigger than when it's on North West Tonight. Is there no way of moving the cameras back a bit so it doesn't look so cramped?

That will be a zoom then? If the Performance Space is smaller than their main studio, then it stands to reason that it will appear a bit smaller on screen? Unless you have some superior knowledge of physics that I don't?

Slightly harsh - you can make the same space look much bigger or smaller on screen by using different lenses. Wide angle lenses are often used in small studios to make the space look bigger - however they are less flattering on faces etc. in some situations - hence they aren't always used.

As for the NWT set - it still looks very odd - a tiny desk marooned in an aircraft hangar. It is possible to shoot a set too wide... (They REALLY need a rostrum - if DDA issues have prevented them having one then they also need one with a ramp - fixed or optional...)

NWT had everything so right before the enforced revamp last year. Such a shame they were forced to ditch arguably their best ever look (certainly in the last ten years) for the standardised dated Lambie Nairn crap.

Erm the studio they are in came with the "best ever look" introduced in 2007, unless of course, you are excluding the studio?
