Tony's a good presenter and he knows what he's going on about, but he's just a scruffy b****r thats my only problem with him. Laughing

I still reckon he's being groomed to replace Gordon eventually. He has a sort-of news background. Ish.

I think he's great.

Yes, he's one of the better sports presenters NWT have employed over the years. At least he's memorable...I didn't realise that Dan Walker did the NWT sport. How long did he do that for? It shows how much of an impression he made on me!

Dan Walker did the NWT sport from about 2004-2006 I think.

He was very good I thought, had a good on screen partnership with Gordon.

He was good too, again he knew his stuff and probably has alot of potential, he used to be on Granada Reports then jumped ship to NWT for a couple of years and then onto News 24, not bad for him at all.

I too thought Dan Walker did an excellent job on NWT. He was lively, engaging and seemed to know his stuff. I'm pleased his career seems to be progressing well.

Top bloke Dan, he came to my old church once a few years ago.

Tony and Gordon both have a good chemistry together, they both did a good job reporting the CL final (as did Gordon and Dan two years before).

I'm going to miss 'On the edge' once it finishes on Friday, Gordon and Stuart make me laugh with their banter and Stuart has been superb presenting the feature - last night's feature was especially funny when Stuart was trying to play Crazy Golf and then Gordon quipped in at the end.

In a couple of weeks Stuart will be a regular presenter in the studio, he will present the Friday NWT from 14th September onwards, alongside Kate Simms.

For me the 'On the Edge' feature has been a pleasant surprise. I had considered the existing NWT reporters as being a little awkward when handling the lighter features, especially in comparison to the rivals over on GR. Perhaps it appeared that way because of the contrasting devotions to 'hard' news on the two programmes.

I think Stuart Flinders has come across really well during this tour. Judging by his past performances as anchor when GB has been away, I think the Friday show is in safe hands. He's had a good rapport with the people he's met and laced that with a measure of wry humour. Informative and entertaining, the feature also has taken on its rightful role in the show, clearly behind the main issues of the day, quite unlike the over-done 'Tour of Talent' that was rushed onto the screens at 6.08 for nearly 15 excruciating minutes each evening over on t'other side... Surprised

Stuart Flinders presenting tonight, maybe Gordon's in Croxteth as he fronted the lunchtime programme today.

I wonder if ON THE EDGE will feature tonight?

Doubt it very much. Hardly fits in with what is a massive news day in the North West.

A well presented programme tonight, suitable for a very sad incident and with very serious issues surrounding it. I'm slightly surprised that they used the titles at the beginning, but overall top marks for both the BBC and ITV.

Both programmes included a short round-up of other news and weather

North West Tonight and what was BBC GMR used to be based in the front of the BBC building on Oxford Road together.

Actually that was where both newsrooms were previously based, the TV studio where the actual North West Tonight programme comes from is still where it has been for 26 years. Its at the back of the building (when looking from Oxford Road.)

FromtheNorth posted:

GMR then got new radio studios at the back of the building in what is known as the `Belgrano` (because of its tin ship appearance) or officially as the `Medlock Buildings`.

North West Tonight have one studio, like other BBC TV centres, they no longer self opt. The black floor you can currently see is part of the studio upgrade.

To clear up a few inaccuracies, there is only one studio but two galleries, the smaller one just needs a director who controls both the sound and vision and is used for breakfast and weekend bulletins, where there are normally no live or studio guests that would need separate mixing.

No BBC regional studios ever had the ability to self-opt, its always been handed to the studio from the local communications centre, though in some regions, the control might have been in the same area. This is to prevent leaving a mixer permanently live, as this would make maintenance very difficult.

The "front" studio referred to by nwt2003 was actually just the reception area by Oxford Road, with the cameras plugged in on long cables to the same gallery as the studio.
