I think it's inevitable that NWT and all other BBC regional news programmes (possibly London excepted) will be using the same National music before long

Headline bed maybe but I doubt they'll use the same music just because MT are. There's supposed to be a big revamp of the regions this year. I can't see that simply being "oooo let's just stick the new music on top of the old titles!"

That's true, those titles have been around for ages - new titles are needed now.

The current music has been used since 2004 and normally changes every 4 or 5 years, so you're probably right with the music. The headline bed is good, though a little fast - if they do change it to the national style then the headline bed will probably be put back before the titles/music as it was before.

Actually, if you look at the statistics, it's normally around 2 - 3 years;

1997 Revamp
2000 Revamp
2002 Revamp
2004 Revamp

Technically, in recent years it should have been 2006, but turns out it's this year.

1997 Revamp

There was no major revamp in 1997, it was only the change of the BBC logo, otherwise the music of that era goes back to September 1995.

Even then that tune was a remix of one that had been in use since 1992 or so.

Why did Tony cut Dario Gradi off half way through a sentence last night? It wasn't done live, so wouldn't they have been able to edit the interview to fit in with time? It was an embarrassing moment.

and I meant music changes as in every 4 years. The 1995 version lasted about 4 and a half years up to May 2000, then the next one lasted from 2000 until early November 2004 and the current one will be 3 years old this November.

I have noticed Ranvir popping up more often on north west tonight
gordon seems to be having a lot of time off now. Naomi Cornwell is getting slowly better at presenting think its just practice. gordon seems to have a day off every other week now. Maybe he's cuting down. Anabelle Tiffin seems scarse these days but Ranvir does such a great job. She's soooo bubbly

Rumours abound that Gordon and Ranvir will be doing a double headed BBC NWT. What a contrast that will be!

A good programme tonight I thought, the casino vote story was covered well with their new political editor live from Westminster and reporters live in Blackpol and Manchester.

Their new political editor is far easy to watch than Jim Hancock was, he always seemed very nervous.

Whatever happened to Jim Hancock?

Jim has taken early retirement so is no longer presenting Hancock's Half Hour, as it was affectionately known. He is still hosting political style events across the north west I believe and I would guess he will appears as a political commentator in the region from time to time.

The new guy is a bit too laid back IMO.

I think we will probably see Jim a week on Thursday, along with a certain Nigel Jay, reporting on the local elections.

A double headed NWT is set to be heading our way from August/September as I understand it, with Gordon and Ranvir or Stuart and Annabel.

Jayne Barrett's consumer strand on Tuesday was particularly funny, showing Gordon in make-up and a poor girl being subjected to silent movie-style torture!

The poor girl was Natalie Hancock - ex-Radio Merseyside reporter. Not the best on-screen debut...

I don't know what to think about Ranvir Singh. She seems like a lovely girl but every time I watch her on NWT she makes mistakes.

Anyone else think that since NWT relaunched the website they're offering much more to the viewers?

Instead of a derisory 'Why not email us your comments?' on issues, we can vote on the Gordonville series of reports (which have been excellent, btw) as well as watch all of them again collected in a sensible, ordered place.

I've looked at some of the websites for other BBC local news programmes and I really think that NWT's is one of the best. Lots of killer, very little filler.
