This is the first time that comes to mind that the lead story on NWT is from Derbyshire! Obviously it was also the top story on Calendar, I haven't checked Granada Reports.

It's a rarity when Derbyshire even gets a mention!

Is Derbyshire in the North West? I thought it was part of the Midlands.
Its stupid how places like that are in BBC North West territory when places in the North West like (most of) Cumbria are not.

Derbyshire is, in Government terms part of the East Midlands.

The issue is not that BBC North West choose to cover Derbyshire, I'm sure they'd like to only cover Lancs, Merseyside, Gtr Manchester and Cheshire BUT the transmitter logistics mean they are lumped with parts of Cumbria and Derbyshire (and also a large portion of the North Wales coast).

You'll find that people in the High Peak district of Derbyshire connect much more with Manchester than Derby anyway because it's closer and easier to get to!

Until someone can stop TV transmissions crossing lines drawn on pieces of paper (ie the County/Region boundaries) you're going to get anomolies.

There are some relays for Winter Hill in north west Derbyshire - Buxton and Glossop (both of these places are miles from Derby and much closer to Manchester.)
In a similar fashion there are places in north east Derbyshire that are close to Sheffield (e.g. Chesterfield) and receive their TV from relays of Emley Moor.

Buxton and Glossop sit on the western edge of the Pennines. Going NW, there isn't any highground until you get to Winter Hill (Granada/ BBC NW mast).

Kinder Scout, Bleaklow and Black Hill plateaux probably block the Emley Moor signal from the north-east to those towns.

TV Whirl has a set of the current titles with the LDN style music from 2004.

Cheers, TV ark is working now.

Is the re-vamp of the titles/music coming up soon? They've had the previous London music for quite a while now, despite a few variations, it's the same as it was in late 2004.

On the subject of which, why do they put the main title intro before the headline bed? Most regions put the headline bed first and then the titles.

Infact they now use the Look North theme for the main titles, but the stings and short titles still use the original London theme.

Not sure why this is but its a mess!

I wish they'd sort out the projector screen near the desk, its never been fully clear and the sooner they ditch that bench/sofa the sooner Gordon and guests can sit in a manner looking human-like.

Has Mark Edwardson now taken over weekends?

He seems to be all over the show, last week he was doing the Breakfast bulletins, he's done Weekends and often does the 10.25pm, as Anabel Tiffin only seems to be on part time really. I don't think there's any permanent presenters outside of the 1.30pm and 6.30pm, and it's usually up to Mark Edmonson, Ranvir Singh, Carol Lowe and Kate Simms.

I don't mind the 2004 look, I still like it, the sofa bit might need a little rethink and the projector the other week was looking like it was struggling, otherwise fine, nowhere near as tired as the 2002 look was in 2004, when everyone got bored of it, including yours truly.

The same as Look North and Midlands Today isn't it? The headline bed and logo on Midlands Today is slightly different, but all 3 use the 'modern' version of the sting with the high beat. Look North and Midlands Today don't use any previous London music for stings, headline beds and bulletins though, whereas NWT use both LDN and LN/MT. I agree - it is a mess!

I think South East still use the old LDN sting music throughout.

However, I believe all of the BBC regions are better at aleast with something to separate them from other regions - the NWT/LN colours and graphics are too similar and the MT/LN music and presentation style are too similar (both have a presentation duo comprised of a male and female).

The 3.20pm was on the verge of disaster then, the opening titles were the full ones, the 1st VT was playing without sound, so Gordon had to rescue it, and then at the end the Weather slide didn't come on screen so Gordon read it off script.

I feel sorry for Gordon sometimes due to the amount of technical problems NWT seem to have, it makes it look rather unprofessional technically sometimes.

More technical problems, you could tell that Gordon felt uneasy about the situation and after a long pause on the sting after the mid-programme sub-headline bed, they eventually switched to the sport headlines - that wasn't planned and was initially planned to be something else.

Another slight problem after the interview with Mark Hughes - another pause, Tony flung his arms up in the air - both Gordon and Tony must be so frustrated with all these technical problems!

I like the titles and music currently - there was also something I liked about the 1995-2000 titles/music.
