About the lack of coverage about the Shipman report. It is strange that they didnt even have a report on it, considering there wasnt even one on the 6 that night. If the 6 did include a report on it, I could understand NWT not bothering.

Probably going for the sympathy vote to shore up the declining ratings!

Nice "anonymous" interview in the studio last night.

You could see the womans face quite easilly and they didnt even try to change her voice.

True. In fact, if you could get a screengrab of "Margaret" in the NWT studio, and play about with the brightness and
contrast levels using PaintShop Pro, Photoshop, or similar, then her "anonymity" would be effectively destroyed.

What on earth was the Tumble Dryer item tonight.
What a load of rubbish - dressed up as exclusive news.
If it was so good - warning people that their Tumble Dryer could kill - why wasn't it the lead!!!
The standard of journalism is terrible.
Two stories tonight - Binge Drinking and the fate of a seriously ill girl - that I watched on ITV last night and/or read in my local paper the Liverpool Echo.
Maybe they should invest a bit more time and money in chasing news stories rather than try to frighten people with over the top stories.

And as for what Diane said to Gordon at the end ''You're Boring'' - Well done for telling him what we all think at home.

I was only watching in and out tonight, again was a bit disappointed, the top story was also shared on Wales Today, the Tumble Dryer story wasn't really worth to be made the second story on the programme.

Personally Gordon's tastes in Ice Cream are boring, but I don't believe he is, its the crap thats being fed to him by the show's producers/editors.

Frankly I got more useful news out of Channel M tonight rather than the BBC.

And considering the resources available to the BBC that is quite a statement.
While I accept that news is more than reporting what's happened on any given day - it's also about doing stories that matter - rather than manufacture rubbish and dress it up as news!!!
The question being asked by some of us here at work is ''Why if the Editor of NWT resided overly a poorly rated poorly respected Granada Reports - was she appointed Editor of NWT? It seems to be more of a case of Granada's gain, BBC's loss!''

Do you really think the beeb has unlimited resources... regional news has been squeezed for years and to be honest Channel M possibly is better resourced, with the might of the Guardian Media Group behind it.....

NWT resoundingly beat Granada again with a huge viewer share, People are watching, and enjoying, hard as that is to belive.
We could have a massive debate about "Quality", journo's running around with there own cameras is a laugh. At best it looks like an A level project, but its apparently what the viewer wants and sadly for all involved its not going away

You wait till you get "Local TV" then you will see what rubbish really looks like.....

You are having a lugh - Channel M better resourced - I don't think so with all the resources the BBC can call on on a national and local basis.
Channel M backed by GMG. Er BBC backed by the licence fee. I know which is a bigger resource so don't talk twaddle.
Ratings are down overall. Yes some nights the BBC resoundingly win helped by a big handover from BBC National News.
But OVERALL the gap is massively down this year and BBC NWT is being beaten by Granada which hadn't happened for years.
And week on week the BBC share is down.
NWT also performs worse than the 1830 slot across the BBC on average and performs below many other regions week on week.
(Yes it won a Roby for Best Programme but that's when those of us who believed in quality had a say - BEFORE the changes were brought in so don't live on PAST achievements)
And as for viewers liking crap-cam. Says who? Not the viewers (see the ratings comment). Not the journalists who object to union agreed rules being ridden roughshod over or are asked to shoot material which looks shoddy compared to their rivals.
Oh yes I know who likes it. The incompetent BBC managers who are dragging down the output turning quality into something shot by a 2 year old.
As for Local TV er - hypocrit! You use Channel M as an excuse and then knock local TV

I think watching all that tv has made your eyes go funny.....
Use Channel M as an excuse... excuse for what exactly?? I didn't say it was any good, I just said the chances are its better resourced, infact it wouldn't surprise me if per head of staff Ch M had a bigger budget than NWT.

I'd be interested to know what resources you think NWT can call on??

Tip.. On your remote control there will be a panel with numbers 1-9 on it, at 6.30 push something other that 1 and I'm sure much satisfaction will ensue

Tip - If you don't like constructive comment then grow up.
This is a forum for discussing the pros and cons of NWT.
I enjoy TV news.
I enjoy working on regional news.
I'm entitle to comment on NWT and GR and Channel M.
I'm just depressed that a news programme that won awards for the quality of its reporting has gone downhill over the past 12 months.

And I know at work SOME think they have this year's RTS in the bag.
That should read they know they have the BBC RTS committee in the bag. That is no real judge of quality.

How anybody can claim the BBC is badly resourced compared to a cable channel is living in dreamland.
Number of people does not equate to a better product.
It's how you use the resources and what the quality of individual is like.
BBC NW has all the resources of the BBC to call on.
I can name several examples in the past few weeks BBC reporters who work for other regions, the network or national/World news have been used to report on NWT - correctly so.
That's a resource Channel M could NEVER call on.
Or reources allocated to Network News have been piggy backed by NWT.
Another resource ChannelM could never have.
The decision to do that is correct but you make out that BBC NWT is some poor underfunded region - absolute RUBBISH.
Wake up and smell the coffee.

And notice how you don't disagree with the point about the ratings declining when looked over a period of weeks and months.
That's because you know it's true.

But hey don't worry because
