North West Tonight is worse now than it has ever been. Gordon is getting very tedious now - he's much worse than he used to be. The graphics look cheap, the studio is a mish-mash of objects and the picture quality is dreadful! I've got an LCD television, and everything except NWT is crisp and clear. When NWT comes on, it is grainy and generally looks shabby.

Granada Reports is miles ahead of NWT now. I much prefer to watch ITV for my regional news.

Couldn't agree more.
NWT can't decide what sort of Programme it is with a mish mash of news and features.
Sometimes Gordon anchors alone.
Sometmes, like tonight, he barely does anything while most of the show is done by others like Annabel and Diane.
NWT - Get a grip.
I also hear that their ratings are on the slide!!!

Far too much time spent at the Southport Flower Show - that sort of feature should be supplementary, not dominating particularly given the amount of exposure they gave to the Tatton show!

The final report was very Granada Reports of a few years ago. Sadly it's becoming the NWT norm. Watching the students in the Vox Box was cringeworthy and had me almost pleading for Dave Guest to return and give a semblance of journalistic normality to the piece.

Some humourous quips from Gordon Very Happy but that cannot excuse the deficiences of the rest of a declining 'news' show.

David Dickinson, an attempted stand-up routine between two OB presenters, Flower, Flowers and more Flowers, and Britney Spears is having a baby.

Simply appalling

These things are all done for the viewers..... if the viewers don't like they could do a lot worse than telling the people in charge rather than just moaning on a forum

please god don't let there be anymore flower shows though....!!

Can anybody tell me what NWT's Commenwealth Games desk was, was it within the main programme and who presented it?

Any caps or video of it wld be good to see!

Thanks.

And my point is, according to a freind of mine who works at BBC NW from time to time, that their viewing figures are on the decline.
So maybe the viewers are telling the people in charge in the best way possible - by switching off!
I've written to BBC NW on a number of occassions and they've never replied.
Maybe if they at least took the trouble to explain why they've made the editorial changes they have - viewers might be prepared to watch it a little more?

I have to agree. The presenation of the programme has always been shocking since they moved to the first 'maps' corporate look, but it has just gone down in quality ever since the current LDN-insipred look came in. Camera quality is especially crap, they desperately need new equipment.

Editorially, the programme has been failing ever since the former editor of the programme left to become Head of BBC Yorkshire, earlier this year or late last year. It's becoming more like ITV's London Tonight, and that is saying something.

Do they work on NWT or just in the building in Manchester??

As far as I know the veiwing figures have been steady, indeed up on what is expected in the summer when everyone is out BBQing...

there has been a lot of "Lighter items" lately, are we heading back to the old days to a magazine style programme like Stuart Hill and John Munday used to do, and would it be a bad thing???

I'd rather not indicate as then it probably narrows down the individual at the BBC.
But they know what they are talking about.
My friend says across the year the viewing figures are down on last year and that some staff think it's because they aren't doing what their viewers would like.

My friend says the dodgy camera work is down to too much use of PD150's - a small camera operated by a journalist rather than a qualified cameraman.
It appears the Editor is very keen on them but most of the journalists aren't.
On a nightly basis there are badly shot, poor quality interviews and even entire packages shot this way.
You would expect with the BBC's budget a higher quality than that.
Then again it seems they put all their money into endless OB's at Flower Shows.
Why not re-name it North West Gardening Tonight!!!!

The evening bullitin tonight is in the newsroom rather than the studio. Does anyone know why?
