I was in Buxton on Sunday. Very nice, good weather too..
On the NWT side of things, I think it is only a matter of time before things change. Hard news is rapidly disappearing from our screens. Yes, we are fortunate to live in a great, cultured city with a different atmoshere to the captial, but all these 'news' stories about cobbles, Beckham, competitions, christmas decorations and the like have no place on news programmes.
Except sometimes in an 'and finally' feature

Frankly the Programme is becoming a joke.
Tonight there was a feature on North West Food that went on far too long and another day of the garden competition.
The lead was a security alert in Manchester that turned out to be nothing and only seems to have got in because it affected where the BBC are based. Would they have done it if it had happened in Chester or Blackburn?
Why only briefly mention the arrest on the 10 year old girl or the boy charged over the park rapes?
Where has all the news gone!!!!!!!

And to underline my point there was an evacuation of a coach station in Liverpool last night - any mention on the BBC - NO!
So why just cover Manchester?

I've noticed they've started packing about five + stories into the in brief section after the lead story. Whats worse is that those 'in brief' stories are big news.
They had no reports on Lauren-Pilkington Smith's murderer being arrested or the rape of those young girls by that 14 year old.
Instead of the 'Eat North West' thing or the 'Vox Box', they could of spent the time with a report on those major stories.
So what happens now? Does it just keep getting worse and worse till it has no viewers?

I'm not going to bother watching tonight because they will bore me ridged with the Garden competition. Hopeless, hopeless, hopeless!

There's a limit to what you can say when the accused are kids though

There is actually quite a lot that can be said with a bit of creative thinking and journalism.
Most of the papers managed to write full pages on it the next day.
A limited mind leads to a limited report!
Then again it's simpler to do 5 minutes on a competition that bores us rigid rather than report on the news of the day!

Much, much better tonight - perhaps the editors have been reading in...
A good 7 mins of the top story about the Muslim cleric, good in-studio interview with some good close-ups of Gordon & guest. Plenty of 'proper' news. The feature about school dinners lowered the tone a bit but was very useful and well put together.
Sport was good, they had Amir Khan in (even better). Dan handing straight over to weather was a great idea and worked well.
A much better programme than the last few weeks!
