Flags on Car Number Plates and Expensive Shoes spring to mind. Truly a waste of everyone's time.

Perhaps another 3 or 4 minutes of proper news from across the region, even if it only be in summary form, at the expense of one of the 'fluffier' stories would be the way to go.

As I've detailed, no major changes are required other than a return to a focus on good old fashioned news - something which NWT has been renowned for over many years.

Not Living in the region I would not know, but i think among their best days were the 2000 Maps Era,
seeing a few programmes on Sky Digital recently I have to say standards have slipped.

Your region isnt the only one thou,
East Midlands Today, Look Peter Levy Live, whatever its called and I have to say South Today have all slipped into the fluffy magazine format of recent times.
The Local news of choice for me is now Spotlight.
Back To NWT thou, why did they change thier titles to BBC LDN Disco style? it may suit London but doesnt any other region IMO

I've got to agree with the way this thread is going.
BBC NW has declined in news content since last summer.
I read somewhere that that was when the former Editor of Granada Reports took over!!!!!!!
Meanwhile Granada Reports has lost some of the fluffier items and become newsier.
Could there be a co-incidence????
Are doing features on Jimmy Choo, a live from a BBQ, a garden makeover competition and other such fluff really what a strong BBC regional programme should be doing?
Gordon is a good presenter - though sometimes seems bored.
They have some good reporters - but the fluff and nonsese they are doing really undermines them.
They won awards for their news coverage last year before all the changes - when Granada were dire.
Now they get beaten on their hard news coverage by Granada on plenty of stories.
They should stick to news and to use Greg Dyke's phrase - cut the crap!!!!!

To be honest, I know cosmetic changes don't affect the content of a programme but I seriously think NWT needs a bit of an overhaul in terms of style, and not a rehash of previous looks. At the moment, the programme is often grainy, the graphics look shoddy and the show just doesn't flow well. It needs to be more upbeat, with crisp graphics and maybe 2 presenters. Think the lively presentation style of Sky News Today, I think that would work well. A fast moving regional news programme with plenty of actual news.

Yes, NWT does seem a little stale graphics and set wise, but rather that than the off-putting bright sets of ITV regional news.

Primarily, the producer and editor at NWT have got to return the show to its original format. At present it's a sorry excuse for a news programme.

Let's hope it's a temporary deviation. Perhaps the rightly derided BBQ and Garden features were aimed at being 'summery' and we hopefully will see a return to something more resembling normality soon.

I agree with the desire but I fear the ''naff features'' are a sign of things to come.
Maybe it's the new Editor (he or she) who needs to be changed before NWT will be!

The Editor is Cerys Griffiths, who used to be the editor and a former reporter for Granada Reports/Tonight if it helps explain anything.

That explains what I thought earlier.
I think she has taken the bad bits with her from Granada Reports to NWT.
It also explains why GR does far less of those bad bits anymore!

The sad thing is is that the North West of England is such an exciting region. A lot of the stories make national news but on NWT, (and I do stress NWT. The Breakfast, weekend, late night bulletins seem to be fine) they spend about 5 minutes on the two top stories, then about a minute on brief news and the rest is made up of competitions, outside weather broadcasts at some food fair (which are very annoying because I cant see Buxton on the map on my TV screen) or other fluffy items which are unnecessary when they could be reporting on all the other stories. They've also got a great bunch of reporters but they are not used appropriately.

So then, just as a guide, are there any members in favour of the current NWT format with its insistence on presenting irrelevance and omitting real news?

I'm not usually one to make predictions, but I doubt there will be many in favour and many more ardently opposed.

I suggest the NWT team wise up to public opinion before the credibility of the show is shot to pieces and its audience share dwindles.

I think the credibility has already dropped several notches. Much more of the same and it'll have none left.
Personally, from what little I know, I suggest the Editor takes heed or returns from where she came! (Or maybe not as GR has got better without her!)

Yes i doi agree i saw NWT for the first time in ages the otehr night, and i must say i would still much prefer Anabelle Tiffin to present. I have warmed to Fiona but think she should stay at brreakfast, as she is good there! I got the impression Jayne thought she was the IT girl, especialy at the beginning of the programme. If its not Anabellle or gordon i don't watch. Is it me or is Gordon taking a lot of time off? Is he perhaps cutting down? if he is then take Anabelle off the late slot and let her fill in once a week. I do agree NWT is getting a l;ittle stuffy in terms of how the programme is, especially with Gordon on it Anabelle does make it dflow much better though!
I am moving home to the North West next week, i look forward to watching NWT

Maybe he is just depressed by what's had to present recently
