how long has the red at the bottom of the screen been there?

Do you mean the red bit below the live shot of Manchester? If so, red lights were put in there when the studio was redone. You can occasionally just catch the edge of them at the bottom of the screen when there's a presenter shot with the Manchester scene behind.

No, he means under the big screen, as you can see here it isn't there.

Ahh the webcam image has changed so you can't see it well now, but basically, there a red panel under the big screen.

The red light box under the projection screen was installed a couple of weeks ago, IIRC. This is to remove the unplanned curved shadow which used to appear underneath the projection screen.

Stuart Flinders is on the late North West news.
Is Annabell pregnant or something? Shes presenting less and less narrow days Confused:

Very odd. The only time Stuart normally presents is to replace Gordon, it is unusual for him to present a bulletin. Carol Lowe normally replaces Annabel Tiffin and occasioanlly Peter Marshall stands in. Gordon however did stay on to do it a few months back!

I wonder how Anabelle Tiffin seems to get to do the news more than Stuart Flinders now ? Out of the 3 times Gordon has been off last summer Anabelle was on .She did the best job NWT has seen in AGES she has that friendly manner and that serious manner,
and she proved that with the usage of the old studio was possible!
Then Stuart did the bulletin at xmas when Gordon and Dianne were doing the Carol concert, then very strange how Stuart Flinders was doing an O.B. and Anabelle was the main presenter the other week where the cockle pickers item was heavily discussed.
Womder who decides shift patterns? Maybe they saw how good she was on Central News and hired her?

What do the presenters do during the 10 o'clock or 6 o'clock news? Must be very boring.

I admire the work the NWT team do but I feel the techincal standard is slipping behind all the other regional programmes. I suspect this is because of old equipment but I don't really know. Maybe this will be rectified when they move to the planned new building at the same time as Five Live move up, but that's a long time to wait! Does anyone know if there are any plans to upgrade any of the equipment. Even a switch to full wide-screen would be nice! Oh, and is it just me, but are there some faint diagonal interference lines on most shots? I can see it when I watch via Freeview, and can't see it on any other channel / programme. Again, is this the equipment?

Yes, there definitely is interference on NWT - it doesn't happen on BBC1 at all outside of North West programming. It must be due to dilapidated equipment, and it's very annoying.
