I think Stuart Flinders is a very good presenter and interviewer and should be first choice stand-in. That said, he'd then be missed in the reporting role he's performed so admirably for well over a decade.

Plus, he appears to be a stand-in on News 24.

Not long now before another 'On the edge', if they're doing one this year.

I hope they are making one, it's a great light-hearted feature which everyone can find interesting and enjoy. The banter between Gordon and Stuart is very funny at times.

Argh! BBC overload! Four mentions on the end screen is excessive, and cluttered when they all occupy the same third of it.

Could be worse, it could also have....

bbc.co.uk/news/england/manchester (or Merseyside or Lancashire) on the tag aswell.

Noticed they added the box on the Lunchtime today, it just seems pointless, either have it as BBC North West Today/Tonight or North West Today/Tonight from BBC News, it just looks stupid having both.

Technically under BBC guidelines website addresses can only be showed to one level beyond the domain. Interestingly it seems an end cap is not something that was provided to all the regions. Depsite almost, if not all of them requiring it, and them all having similar information to include.

Chas says two BBC Logos is NOT a breach of guidelines as they have been edited accordingly.

Anyone catch Dave Guest not being able to cut the ribbon for the weird igloo thing, it was rather funny, they couldn't shut Gordon and Ranvir up.

I did - it was funny, particularly when they did the "Breaking News" at the end. Laughing

I did as well. If I remember correctly, Dave said the scissors were BBC scissors!

What's everyone think about Tony and Ranvir? They seem to work well together.

I don't think Tony Livesey should be anywhere near anchoring NWT at this stage. He is fantastic in his role as sports presenter and reporter, mixing knowledge and enthusiasm with a great sense of playful humour but he lacks any sort of gravitas for being main anchor.

What are his credentials?

Having watched tonight, I'd say he's got the gravitas when he needs it - but he's still too scruffy!

Couldn't agree more, but I have one problem more with NWT than with Tony, either make him a Presenter or keep him on Sport, not doing either, it just doesn't feel right for me, but otherwise he's a good fill in when Gordon's off.

I agree with you guys - he needs a shave! He used to edit the Daily Sport so I can never take him seriously when he's reading serious news stories.

Many people tend to forget the latter, and anyway who can take the Daily Sport seriously? I'm guessing Mr Livesey is a journalist, he's edited a Newspaper and he's good at presenting the Regional News so why should that go against him.

He's clearly got a very different style to the veteran and much liked Gordon so his anchoring is bound to evoke some differences of opinion amongst regular watchers of the show.

I question his suitability for the role at present. He could in time grow into a very good presenter, as he certainly has the 'warmth' that seems to be highly valued in regional news. But given his previous apperances on the show have been 50% sport and the rest budget stand-up, he lacks authority.
