I don't understand why people moan about the capital of culture. How could it be a bad thing? Regeneration, nation-wide publicity, international publicity, more tourists, more people wanting to live and work there, more money, richer city, which will lead to everyon's benefit as opportunities and the local economy picks up. This is a good thing - celebrate it. Sure Liverpool isn't the centre of the universe, but this is a big deal for the city. I thought it was quite poor that there was no continuous coverage of the opening the other day on tv - couldn't they have shown it on BBC Three or on the internet? As for NWT special titles, I thought they were quite good. North-West graphics in general used to be terrible - they seem to have someone competent in charge of them nowadays!

I also agree that it is a good thing for the city.

I was under the impression that the Culture company didn't have the right licences to broadcast it live?

I think those titles will be used a lot this year. I find it hard to believe they were especially made for one night...

I'll bet my mortgage that broadcasters and publishers face legal hell and high water this "capital of culture" year. With all the messing about during "capital of chaos" year (2007) would it come as a surprise to anyone that one arm of the operation has a totally different interpretation of the contracts from another? Let's not forget either that hitherto Liverpool was widely known as "capital of litigation." I sincerely hope all goes well - and it probably will. Unfortunately the personalities and culture won't allow everything to go smoothly.

Another NWT special tonight on the Munich Disaster similar to the one for Gary Newlove a few weeks ago. Also no Gordon, its Ranvir and Tony Livsey.

Is there really any need for a special on this? Ok, make it a big story with a special report or perhaps the top story if it's a slow news day but a special is a bit over the top.

Didn't like the standing at the beginning. Looked a bit stupid with Ranvir actually standing in front of Tony.

Slightly too much on Valentines this week.

Good to to see Nigel Jay earlier. I'd like to see Martin Henfield make a guest appearance next.

I'm surprised, in fact shocked, that nobody mentioned last night's six headline opt going wrong. It cut from Gordon to London after the first headline and then cut back to North West again for the last few words of the second headline with some consequences.

We ended up with something similar to

Gordon: ...the super casino bid. And...
London Presenter: And, why parents are unable to get their children...
Gordon: ...to injure burglars with knives.

Laughing

Obviously, not exactly like that, but something to that effect - it was perfectly timed as well!

On another note I wasn't keen on the chroma key effect used in the studio over the super-casino bid and all the standing - seemed a bit silly and gimicky.

I Like Ranvir - she's good when she's reading the news.

But - when she's on the couches her chit chat is like an annoying little sister! Even more noticable this week as she's got the Lead role in Gordon's absence.

She almost seems out of her depth with the ad-libbing and the small talk with Dianne & Tony.

Ayone agree? Or is it just me??
