I didn't know that, though I didn't see the end of it tonight, I switched over when they started all of the Fat Nation rubbish, but you could tell tonight that his voice was starting to go, TBH it is getting worse, I think he should be allowed more time off, as he rarely has time off. They should do what they did over the summer and let Annabel Tiffin present the main edition of NWT.
No-one else available for the 10.25, no Annabel Tiffin? No Nigel Jay? No Tina Bangs? No Fiona Trot? No Peter Marshall? They must be running out. But good for Gordon, I bet he must have a really long day at BBC North West as I guess he must start work at like 10am or 11am.
How many other presenters does North West Tonight have apart from Gordon?
There's no other official presenter, he presents the main programme as he is the main anchor, though they have a presenter called Stuart Flinders who is the first choice if Gordon is off, though they have loads of other presenters for the shorter bulletins, all of whom I have mentioned in my above post.

Yes. It was a breath of fresh air (and practically a different programme) then.

It does seem odd that none of them were available, although Nigel and/or Fiona might not be too happy to come in for the evening bulletin and return for Breakfast.

Well i think Annabelle tiffin should be Anchore lady. she is MUCH BETTER than dreary old Gordon who just makes the programme stale and old and a laughing Joke. I
It needs a re vamp and Gordon is so un enthusiastic. We need Anabelle; she made a good move from Central News East some time ago and did the best job ever when Gordon was on holiday.
The set is appauling a studio of such size uses, which uses such liyttle space. Old dated credits and looks like a box in a corner, get rid of it and bring in 2 sofas and the newer ldn credits with dual presenters.
I'm not suprised that many people are switiching back to Granada Reports. much better imo and has really proved itself in the past 18 months to be much better in presentation and news gatering and reading.,It does not concentrate soley on Manchester.
It's timre we had a few sub regions maybe in Liverpool and Cheshire and one for Manchester and Lancashire, we are a big region remember. Here in the Midlands i watch Nick Owen and Suzanne, very good at their jobs nd have a great chemistry, and very professional!
I don't know why but I think Gordon is better presenting the shorter bulletins rather than the main bulletin, as I think he is good when NWT is on at Lunchtime and so was the bulletin then, but because NWT is longer compared to other bulletins, the 10.25 is just News and down to the point. Though it is odd that there were no other presenters available, though good to see him helping out, it musn't be good for him as he must have had a 12 hour shift or so, his voice is losing it a bit and don't forget he's at the grand old age of 61. (I believe)
Anyway the person doing the Slides for the sport must have had a longer day than Gordon, as we had the results from the 'COKE COLA CHAMPIONSHIP'
Though I agree with the general opinion of a revamp, though the format of the show is alright its presentation that lets it down, it's the same studio they've had for 4 years now and they've altered it by adding this removing that and what have you. A new studio would be better IMO, one like South East Today would suit North West Tonight, but I think keeping the view of Oxford Road in the background would be a good idea.

just found an old nwt promo gordon was much livelier and had various tones of voice the studio was cool and modern and he read the headlines well
think he is getting on a bit now!

Not sure a revamp is needed. The slot in the summer when Annabelle was presenting showed that the producers/directors have plenty of ideas of how to use the set as it is very effectively - and with a whole different feel.
The sidebar should go, though!

That I do have to agree with, it does look very out of date now, it was a good idea when the main BBC News was using it in 2002, but now it just doesn't look right on screen, plus with the amount of shots that NWT uses the sidebar just does look out of place.
I can see what you are saying about different methods and shots, that was a good idea, though the studio does need altering, I always think that the huge screen looks very out of place for some reason, I never saw the reason why they got rid of the soft area which had a couple of yellow seats (2000-2002 era) and a different shot of Manchester. I think a projector style screen that they use on N24 would suit NWT more IMO.
It's the technical side that really lets NWT down, granted it doesn't have proper 16:9 facilites but it can do things to make it look better rather than cropping some normal 4:3 stuff such as idents, Tai Chi doesn't look nice in Letterbox mode is all I can tell you.
I do agree with what the above poster said, I agree that Gordon is a very good presenter and reporter, but I think it might be time for him to stand down or at least have a co-host or something, plus it is starting to affect his voice, sometimes it can be quite bad TBH. Plus comparing it to Granada Reports it just lags behind it isn't as fast paced as it was. Though NWT I think is just going through a bad patch or something, Granada Tonight/Reports have had them, but they're on a high at the moment. Plus compare it to other BBC regions NWT looks rather old or more from 2000 sort of thing, compared to other regions that have adopted the new BBC News look with a sofa and LDN music. (Though the sofa wouldn't work on NWT I think the LDN music would)
Gordon is a great presenter, though I think he is more of a Mike Neville or Harry Graition figure.
