Wow caught new Newsnight last night and apart from the camera work in the first minute being incredibly ropey the opening title sequence is rather terrible. It reminds me of something 'fan made'. It has the potential of being good but isn't executed well at all.

Yep, I appreciate the attempt to do something different and the retention of a limited form-up to keep the pace up but it ultimately doesn't go anywhere* and the camera work is surprisingly shonky.

*well, of course it does, but the cackhanded way it goes about it ensures BH is unrecognisable.

The camera work was a bit wobbly last night but it was far better earlier this week - at least as good as it was in TC7.

Sorry, I was referring to the aerial shots in the title sequence.

Ah, sorry about that - that's me getting confused as the camera work in-studio did seem a bit off as well.

.... beginning to think that Newsnight's future, as the programmes name, not the slot or it's material, must be being questioned at a high level forllowing the Savile story allegations with more to come over the next 24 hours.

The programme's editor having been stood down temporarily this morning.

Kind of puts a damper on the programme's first appearance on BBC HD tonight...

I think most viewers realise the difference between who works on a show and the name of the show. The name Newsnight is exceptionally well established and personally I think it can easily still be trusted, despite the recent bad judgement. In my view, it's reputation for heavyweight political and world affairs journalism will easily see it through this rough patch.

Mind you, we could posture about it possibly being rebranded Nightfall, Sunset, or TV-PM for maybe 10-15 pages or so...

You could think of it as a 'sting' that separates the coming up sequence from the programme?

It's still poor really it's badly executed.

Did get a mention by the continuity announcer.

Also noticed Peter Rippon was still credited as editor at the end
