Hopefully not a permanent fixture - a completely non-standard name strap design in use on this evening's programme. Very large (Gill Sans) font and an animated background. No sign of the programme name in the strap. The programme's DOG was also out of sight.

More than a bit fed-up of BBC Northern Ireland 'doing their own thing'. That ghastly, tired looking set - which bears no resemblance to the BBC News 'look'. And why they think they're so special that they need a 'BBC News NI' logo. All this inconsistency!

While not quite as angry as our OCD OP, I do think these graphics are hideous - that being said I think subtle hints at the branding look good on an aston. Maybe better typography?

Putting "Reporter" on the Aston just looks amateurish, the kind of thing I've seen from local TV stations astoning as "Presenter", it just looks crap.

Looks a lot better.

I don't want to start a rumour but could they be getting a new set, meaning things are a little different? I don't know if this is usual for weekends but looking on iPlayer it was a fixed camera position throughout, not making use of what I would have thought to be the obvious shot with their projected background behind them. Saying that, I wouldn't think they'd animate the background to the strap if it was temporary.

Kind of like Sky News putting Journalist above someone's names?

They usually only do that if it's a journalist who doesn't work for Sky don't they?

The fixed camera shot is common for the weekend bulletins, Nothing unusual about that. That background is simply one of the existing panels that make up the main set.

As I understand it, there won't be a new set this year (perhaps that info is now out of date though, who knows). Possibly the kit used to produce the name straps is being upgraded (to HD) over the weekend?

It'll be interesting to see what appears on the evening and late bulletins today.
