I'd have thought given Donna's contribution to CiN last week she would be top odds for taking this week off...
Let's see, Mark Carruthers may have been on Evening Xtra duty tonight on Radio Ulster, Noel Thompson might be on holiday or doing work for Hearts and Minds.
Surprised Newsline couldn't have got Sarah, Karen, or even Rose Neill or Jim Fitzpatrick in to co-host with Donna this evening.
Who knows if it's an experiment, I'd have thought BBC NI would stick with the two-presenter format for the main bulletin given it's what UTV do and most of the other BBC regions adopt the same format.
Was Donna later joined by Stephen Watson or whoever for sport?

She was, then they just stayed together. That's two nights in a row, but there were three OBs in the show. One from Armagh, Foyle Studio and Belfast. Stephen then joined in as did Angie.
I'm susprised the length the BBC went to for the building coming down, they seemed to have at least 4 broadcast cameras and 4 DVCams floating about. I was doing stuff for "another channel" <ahem!> and was up BT tower.
Is Jim Fitzpatrick presenting more Newsline bulletins? I noticed he presented last night's late edition, and still very impressive.
Surprised to see another reporter covering a story in the North West apart from Kieran Tourish, Julian O'Neill reported from the fire in a Derry store and concluded with "BBC Newsline, Londonderry" - is there a style point here, as both Kieran Tourish, and Mark McFadden for UTV, call it Derry at the end of their reports?

Jim really is very good. Would certainly like to see him mixed in with the main 6.30pm presenting team. We do need a break from Noel Thompson every now and again - especially his, er, sense of humour. That 'quiz' style Hearts and Minds last week - oh how I did cringe.
As for the Derry v Londonderry references. I do recall years ago that the BBC had a policy of referring to Londonderry on the first occasion and then Derry thereafter - within a particular item. Something along those lines. The Julian O'Neill segment and it's leadup from Jim both referred to Londonderry.
In a news item that immediately preceded the Crescent Link fire piece, it was referred to as Derry.
Most days this week Newsline has been reporting on a News Item from Dublin, but what I think spoils it is the crap backdrop they have, could they not get a live camera shot from somewhere and use that or use an outdoor shot from the roof of a building some where, like RTE does on Belfast?
