Here are my final three, though the files are much shorter, they are in higher quality Windows Media format.

The first one is the one I mentioned earlier, the Nine O'Clock News from 1995, with the last bit of the headlines
BBC Nine O'Clock News 1995 - Windows Media File

The next file is the end of BBC Breakfast News in 2000 with Julie Etchingham and Noel Thompson doing the honours
The last BBC Breakfast News - Windows Media File

The final file is Peter Sissons bringing us the end of the last Nine O'Clock News telling us what will be happening from Monday
The end of the Nine O'Clock News 2000 - Windows Media File

Wasn't Noel Thompson great - he's wasted on Newsline, time to bring him back to network news.

There have been some great recordings posted here -- many thanks to dvboy and nwtv2003 for their contributions. It's great to see people taking the time to capture these gems.

Keep 'em coming!

James -- I haven't forgotten about your request for a picture of Lisa Davidson. Not had time to dig the tape out again (I returned it to its home right at the back of the landing cupboard!), but I'll try my best to do it tomorrow for you.

I have a bit of early BBC News 24 from 1997 and 1998 if anyone wants to see, I should have the original Weekend 24 titles and a bulletin from the BBC strike in 1998, that was shown on World too. I've also got the 'Now O'Clock News' promo too. Also have a BBC One handover from 1998, that has a long look at the flags, not too long.

Again if anyone's interested, I'll upload tomorrow.

It'd be nice to see the Weekend 24 titles, thanks.

Noticed the Cue Dots, top left corner of the screen on the Clock. Living Northern Ireland I only ever got to see those when there was no local continuity.

I know that Cue Dots are often used to help identify a source, and in commercial television to warn presentation galleries that a live programme is about to come off air.

But does anybody know why exactly BBC Pres used Cue Dots back then?

Would they not be to cue the news gallery, a 5 second warning that they would be on air? Or a similar warning for any regions/nations who needed to opt back?

BBC Pres used cue dots to cue live productions. It was (and still is) normal to have two-way talkback between the pres galery and the studio or OB and usually a dedicated telephone line too. But until the channels went digital (when delays rendered them useless) cue dots were used as a fail-safe backup. The idea was that if communication failed from pres, the live production team could simply watch an off-air feed of the network and get a visual cue as to when they were to start. Remember too that in years gone by, many more programmes were live and often pres would run junctions between two live programmes. It wasn't possible to give the next programme a precise on-air time, as in the BBC programmes often over or underrun. In circumstances like this, the cue dot was always accurate (at least, it always should have been!)

As I recall it, for many years the protocol was that BBC cue dots went on at TX -1 minute, off at TX -10" and back on again at TX-5" remaining on air until the network cut to the live source. In later years the protocol changed to a similar pattern used by ITV, in that they went on at TX -1 minute and off at TX -5".

BBC World and BBC Prime (and their predecessors BBC World Service Television) used Cue Dots to cue commercial breaks - using the On at 1 minute, Off at 5" protocol.

Using Cue Dots to cue a live production became obsolete when digital transmission and reception meant that because of the delays involved in decoding an off-air picture, it could no longer be assumed by an OB that the picture they were seeing wasn't delayed - meaning they'd never start on time!

It was different for the ITV Cue Dot, as they were (and still are) used the other way round, i.e. a live production use them to tell the pres departments when they are about to take a centre break. Regardless of any circuit delay between OB/Studio and pres, the dot still goes off at Break -5".

I know it's unlikely, but does anyone have the BBC News bulletin from the day that the corporate logo changed (4th Oct 1997)? I'm looking for the bulletin that was on at around 5pm, presented by Moira Stuart and with the first showing of the then new, BBC clock??

Can anyone help me.....?
Thanks Very Happy
