Has anyone got a file that they could upload for me - I need a complete (if possible) bulletin from the 'virtual' era with Moira Stewart as presenter/co-presenter.

Thanks

I've found the first few minutes of a virtual era Christmas Day bulletin on a tape with John Humphries presenting, but I'm not sure what year it is (John Major is prime minister, the Queen talks about Northern Ireland progress a lot, the bulletin went out after Back To The Future III if those facts can help put a date on it). Anyone want me to capture and upload it?

That would be great to see John in the virtual studio. Humpries, that is, not Major - the blue underpants might clash with the set Wink

Also, just before the bulletin, a trailer for Superman III and Only Fools And Horses "in 10 minutes"

dvboy -- thanks very much indeed for posting that. It looks like Christmas 1993 from the BBC1 ident. If you could upload the intro with headlines, that would be excellent.

Also, if anyone else has any Virtual Era material on tape, please upload it if you have the capabilities. I'm sure a few of us would like to see more!

Indeed, my thanks also.

I'm sure a few of us would also like to see some Breakfast News material from the 1997-2000 period - material on the net seems to be few and far between.

Right here is my BBC News 24 stuff from November 1997, before I start, I would like to apologise as I only have the basic Free version of Real Player, so the quality isn't terrific and I don't want to pay £150 to upgrade or whatever it is.

Anyway we start with a handover at 1.40am, with Jane Hill welcoming BBC One viewers...
BBC One, News 24 Handover, Right Click Download

Next one is the countdown at 1.59am, end of the Weather with Dan Corbett, the countdown slide is also different, advertising news.bbc.co.uk at the time
BBC News 24, Flags Countdown and Headlines, Right Click Download

The final one for now, is the countdown at 2.59am, though no Weather this time, just the end of USA Direct and a bit of sound from the Weather but from a female presenter, same style caption used in the countdown

BBC News 24. Flags Countdown at 3.00am

I'll try and find the Nine O'Clock News later, though the most of the headlines are cut off, the only stories I know are some bomb in Iran and that girl who died from one Ecstasy tablet.

Anyway, enjoy.

I have a christmas day bulletin with the late Jill Dando from the virtual set, it is either Christmas 93', 94' or 96'. This is because it is the old BBC logo, and I believe Peter Sissons did the 95' Christmas day bulletin. The top story is a plane hijacked by terrorists - don't suppose anyone remembers what year that was. I am guessing 1994, but I don't know.

PS. Don't ask for any caps etc., I don't know how to !!!!

I was digging around at the back of a cupboard today and came across a few old VHS tapes. I decided to have a quick look at what they contained, and was surprised to find some old BBC News bulletins. I've captured them and uploaded them for you all to enjoy.

The first is a daytime summary bulletin from 1989 with Lisa Davidson:

BBC News - Daytime Summary 1989

Second, we have the opening of a Christmas Day bulletin with Jill Dando, also from 1989:

BBC News - Christmas Day 1989

I also came across a full Virtual Era bulletin -- a Saturday late evening bulletin with Peter Sissons from 1996. I shall upload that tomorrow.

Noticed the Cue Dots, top left corner of the screen on the Clock. Living Northern Ireland I only ever got to see those when there was no local continuity.

I know that Cue Dots are often used to help identify a source, and in commercial television to warn presentation galleries that a live programme is about to come off air.

But does anybody know why exactly BBC Pres used Cue Dots back then?

That will probably be 1994. I uploaded the Christmas 1995 bulletin with Peter Sissons in November, and as we've seen above, John Humphries did 1993.
