The desktop is polished, and as such, reflects the croma Green of the news wall.
It's then a simple matter of flipping the input to the wall and moving it into a satisfactory position.

The backing is an "enhanced" recording of the view looking back from the News 24 set towards News 24 sport. It is CSO-ed behind the presenter, who stands in the same CSO position used for VR recordings and CSO pieces-to-camera used in pre-recorded reports.

On the subject of VR, is it not true that the backdrop of the newsroom for the daytime news summaries/updates is in fact not real and is opposite the main national set ?

The BBC1 National News set looks very small on screen. I remember watching the video available on BBCi about the making of the news, and it looked even smaller on there (without the clever camera angles no doubt used during broadcasts) It seems hard to imagine that they can squeeze in a CSO area as well
