How was your Vision mixing James? I hope the team were nice to you.

I think the vision mixing went quite well - I only went wrong once, when I cut to the sport titles when I should have just put them on stand by. Nerve-wracking stuff though, even in what was just a simulation!

The team were lovely- I was genuinely surprised by how helpful they all were. I got talking to a sports journalist, and a guy from the website support team, to try and steal ideas on the BBC News backend for my own website. (It's a Pokémon website, if you're wondering, but runs off of a database, and is full of technical stuff, and I try to be witty. See: here). They all knew what they were talking about and it was all horrendously interesting. I'm sure my girlfriend found it thrilling watching me talk about SQL databases.

The other interesting thing was that all of the staff there kept asking me about careers- the technical bloke said that he loved his job, which is all very nice.

Additionally, is the sport introduction used on the tour used on News 24/etc? It's essentially a blank BBC News introduction (no numbers on the globe), with the BBC Sport logo in a yellow box underneath- I've never seen it used on TV, although I'm not a sports fan myself.

I did the vision mixing last year in Edinburgh, and did notice the 'Sport on Tour' ident before the sport. The presenter messed up because she started talking when the ident played though so no clean versions.:p They also had a Tai Chi ident with a male announcer saying something like 'This is BBC One. Now the news on tour from the Meadows, in Edinburgh'. I assume they made one for every location. I got another go later on and did Reporting Scotland. Pretty easy presentation on that.

They also let me design a story in a BBC News template (and one in a Newsround template). Fantastic fun.

Oh yeah, and I got a go at the sound mixing. That's a hectic job!

I'll need to check if I can get along to it this year. Go early in the morning, because it is VERY busy later on.

A little belatedly, thanks to Nicky and the gang for making News on Tour such fun. I had a go at presenting, with mixed results (largely thanks to a dodgy autocue operator! - at least that's my excuse). But a fantastic experience. Thanks again!

Thanks to Nicky and the team for making it another excellent time. I had a go at the vision mixing and radio director this time. Smile
