Out of interest, are the BBC allowing the public loose with their new flashy weather GFX at the tour? Or are they just providing the old 'basic' maps? Because I can just imagine some rather haywire weather bulletins where the maps go wrong, or some poor child getting rather lost as the map starts doing its flyovers and zooms in and out. Also, the possibility of forecasting 'dark and light patches with a hint of blue in central areas' suddenly become very feasible. Shocked

Yep new graphics - but all is pre-prepared on a DVD. Unfortunately my weather presenter wore blue and got a south-east map. Well done that man. Laughing

I'm going to the Leicester one on Friday- does anyone know if the "create a story for the BBC News website" lets you use the actual content management system the site uses?

I can't say who - but Friday will be a better day to come - after say 11am ish.
As to the online stuff - no it's not the same content system - specially set up pages for us to use on the road.
Say hi if you are coming down - we're next to M&S in Leicester.

When is the Edinburgh one? I might pop up for a visit. I went last year, it was very interesting.

I went to the Leicester one today and had a go at vision mixing (James at 1345 if you want to have a go at remembering me!), and I had a lovely time.

I was tempted to say hello to Nicky, but I thought going "Hello, I've read quite a few of your posts on TV Forum, but I don't post much, and you don't know me", might sound a bit weird.

I know it's a long shot and more suited to the requests forum, but does anyone have a capture of the News on Tour live report from this lunchtime? Apparently my girlfriend and I were on screen for 10-15 seconds in the background, and being the vain person I am, I'm dying to see myself on telly.

I think the vision mixing went quite well - I only went wrong once, when I cut to the sport titles when I should have just put them on stand by. Nerve-wracking stuff though, even in what was just a simulation!

The team were lovely- I was genuinely surprised by how helpful they all were. I got talking to a sports journalist, and a guy from the website support team, to try and steal ideas on the BBC News backend for my own website. (It's a Pokémon website, if you're wondering, but runs off of a database, and is full of technical stuff, and I try to be witty. See: here). They all knew what they were talking about and it was all horrendously interesting. I'm sure my girlfriend found it thrilling watching me talk about SQL databases.

The other interesting thing was that all of the staff there kept asking me about careers- the technical bloke said that he loved his job, which is all very nice.

Additionally, is the sport introduction used on the tour used on News 24/etc? It's essentially a blank BBC News introduction (no numbers on the globe), with the BBC Sport logo in a yellow box underneath- I've never seen it used on TV, although I'm not a sports fan myself.
