The squash onto one line was due to how the straps were built and designed rather than the font. Now, instead of squashing, the font reduces in size.
That could, and should, have been the way it worked before too.

the 2007 graphics at the time. They'd look completely out of place now given that visual design has mostly migrated towards flat minimalism, which is a very good thing overall.
The 2008 set was a massive retrograde step, it looked so clunky and unpolished in comparison. I much prefer the 2013 evolution, which is really how it should have looked from day one.
And I don't want to start a Gill Sans vs Helvetica debate but Gill is so impractical for rolling news graphics. Remember how awfully they used to condense long text to get it to squash onto a one-line strap? Eugh.
