Was that just a zooming shot of a testcard on the NaT just then?

Yes, it was. Confirmed by a relative's traditional joke when they see a technical fault, "Someone's gettin' sacked".

How many faults has that been within the last few days?

Yes, a lovely zooming shot of HD SMPTE colour-bars. What's normally there - trundle-cam? Perhaps the CCU lost connection with the camera.

I think it's the camera from the opposite building zooming into BH. Here's what it looks like normally:

Interesting that the zoom isn't done from the camera and is built in to the graphics.

So is the shot live then?

Video of it at link below. Was a bit surprised to see the zoom on the chroma bars. And yes, the shot is usually live, apparently.

That’s a bit dangerous for it to be live

How long before the sort of people who like to disrupt broadcasts outside Westminster with placards, turn up outside Broadcasting House with a big banner

I thought the Langham Place camera was live, when they moved in back in 2013 I remember a few people talking about it.

Of course certain groups have turned up before to protest.

Showing the tricks of the trade there with the zoom being a DVE effect! I suppose it makes sense when you think about it - far easier to do that than remotely control the camera.

Programmed sequence maybe? That’d work. But could fail

It is live. If there's something happening outside BH that they don't want to show then they just won't use the shot, it's very simple.

Anyone else remember that there was a plan to integrate a shot of the outside of BH and the journalists memorial on the roof, into the titles of the 10 o clock news? Seemed to be totally forgotten about between the first stage of the redevelopment being fnished and the completion of the project

Yeah, pretty sure at the same time it was also mentioned that the 10 would come from a studio just beneath the memorial with a window looking out over All Souls, which sounds like what ended up being the Persian studio where Newsnight is now.
