BBC's letter to joint unions.

From what I can see in that quick skim read of the note, almost everything is the same, apart from nobody will be booted out until the middle of 2006 ... Hmmm ...

This is hilarious.

The unions are claiming "significant concessions"- if you read what's actually been agreed, nothing has changed.

The job cuts were never going to happen tomorrow- but they've now been "delayed by 12 months"- most of them were planned after this point.

The sale of BBC Broadcast would have taken this long anyway, so again no loss for the Beeb.

The same number of jobs are going to go- the unions have achieved nothing.

That's not quite how I read it, and you've half-quoted the unions, who said:
Quote:
Management has made significant concessions regarding privatisation but has failed adequately to address concerns over job losses

You've also missed out an important feature. The cuts are apparently designed to pay for new services, to be introduced sometime in the future (many of which will require people to be taken on). What management are offering is to bring forward some of these new jobs, so people can transfer to them, rather than being made redundant.

Even so, the unions aren't recommending acceptance of the offer, so we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Good grief how on earth can the unions claim that as a significant concession, the fact is people are still going to lose their jobs.

Try reading the post immediately above, where I quoted what the unions actually said, not what they're half-quoted to have said. You'll see that the concessions are largely on privatisation, not jobs. Here it is again:

If the link doesn't work by clicking on it, try going into Real Player, copying the link into the URL bar and then opening it like this. The links don't open on my computer either, so that's how I open the videos. If it doesn't work, you may have to try and reinstall your Real Player.

Hilarious article in the Mail on Sunday talking about Stephen Cole. That man's ego knows no bounds. Most telling comment was in the last paragraph
