Media Guardian update, -

10am: Tony Benn has shown up at the BBC picket lines to lend his support to striking workers, blaming former director general John Birt for the job cuts.

He is now live on Sky News

A bit more from Media Guardian..........................

"Unions are predicting that coverage of today's Chelsea Flower Show, which is due to begin at 12.30pm, will be badly hit. It is one of the largest outside broadcast operations of the year and unions are already heading for a clash with management who have tried to hire freelance crews to replace striking staff.

Pickets are expected at the gates and trouble could flare."

Prospect of trouble???

Yes, Akhtar Khan certainly has done well since 1am. Why don't we see more of him, he is an excellent newsreader. Bring him to BBC1.

How come the Doily is on? I thought she was a BBC Regional Presenter by week, and a N24 Presenter by weekend? Is she breaking the strike??????

Regardless, nice to see her streaming online. It's great watching BBC World from my desk. I have been able to keep up to date with all of today's unplanned bulletins. Thanks for that link, whoever it was.......

Sky now have a big test card on the newswall while discussing the story.. but Millbank's got a tiled BBC logo at a 45 degree angle - surely against the guidelines? Smile

You can use company branding and logo's when reporting directly about them...

News just in from Cardiff.................

BBC Cymru is playing Beethoven repeatedly with no other programming or announcements, and BBC Wales broadcasting repeats and a recorded message every half an hour stating that programmes were disrupted due to the strike.

According to NUJ reports there, the picket lines managed to stop the Paperboy and the Bin Men from going into BBC buildings there.

It apears that alot of the business anchor's have broken the strike action. The Business department hav also relocated to the London Stock Exchange. This morning we have had Declan, Darshini and Julia all on. But Darshini was talking to Susan in the main studio.

And the interesting thing is how well that News24 is holding up. I've counted four Live-links at the moment, one on at the mo is to Tory HQ, as you mentioned, the London Stock Exchange, and a few others.

The presentation is very good too, I honestly think at the moment that they could cope with full 1 hour live broadcasts, they seem to have everything under control.

Yes, but I don't suppose they have enough material to fill a whole hour.
