I'm suprised that there is much going on at BBC Birmingham full stop, it's almost a total walk out at the mailbox here. Midlands Today and BBC Radio WM are going to be badly affected

I'm really intrigued how they regained control from the emergency DAT so quickly. It's difficult to get it back at the best of times, and not only are they in Birmingham at 2.00 in the morning, but there's a BBC strike on!

One person running a music sequence radio programme totally on their own isn't exactly a miracle (presuming all the wires between your desk and the transmitter(s) are working)... at least it isn't if you've ever worked in local radio...

indeed - the strike seems to be affecting more than just the wm/mids today end of things. functions that keep things running smoothly behind the scenes are also joining in.

oh and ive heard some rumours about who may be re-appearing to read tomorrows mids today bulletin, most of the viewers prob think this person is dead owing to his/her sudden disappearance - ill certainly be watching to see if the rumour is true Laughing

If there is somebody present at Radio 2 in London, simply unplugging the DAT, or pressing stop should be sufficient to give network control back to Birmingham. This makes me think that there are still knowledgeable bods around.

Taken - but it's not normal to have to do it in this sort of situation. She's definitely having some technical difficulties, but she's working through them as best she can.

I don't understand why the presenter on Radio 2 is having a problem. I've never had anyone elses input in the nearly three years I've been in local radio.

I'm generally on my own in the studio unless the Programme Director or Producer decides to hang around.

She said they've had to put everything on a different system, so for starters she's using a system she's not used to.

Secondly, she's on her own, which she's also not used to. Given, most presenters and journos in local radio present on their own. But if you're presenting a show where you're used to having a crew with you then it must be difficult being thrown in at the deep end without support.
