I thought one of the managers had taken the news seat then realised it was that guy of Fast Track.

Radio 4 has a shipping forecast, but does anyone know what World Service is broadcasting? Radio 4 is supposed to join it in a few moments after the shipping.

It looks like they're doing 5 minute bulletins at the top of the hour, then explaining the industrial action and going into taped output.

I see Radio 4 have scheduled for tomorrow morning:
08:30-09:00 I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue (repeat)

And a Ken Clarke jazz programme if you get up early. Some of this stuff may prove to be more popular than what its replacing... (although Quote Unquote is still scheduled - I am yet to meet anyone who likes it.)

I note from their schedule they're acknowledging there is no hope of them being back to normal at midnight on Tuesday, only a two minute bulletin then.

(am really off to bed now..)

EDIT: is WORLD carrying this?? If this is a Live news24 newscast, it's strange UK news with Germany as the top story!

It's always simulcast overnight, so it's rare for a UK story to be the lead in any case at this hour.

5 Live is embarrasing. They're playing out the whole of 'Sporting Century' which will take about 7 hours, but he newsreader (Chandrika Chevly) is makeing a total tit of herself when doing the 'now a change to our scheduled programme' links, bursting into fits of laughter.

If she's still laughing then she's definitely on tape. She started her shifted before the strike began, I think the midnight bulletin was the last one she did.

The word from inside is that everything was very civilised at the start of the strike, with warm chats between the outgoing team and the strikebreakers. The people walking out worked right up to the 0001 start of the strike, helping out until the last second. All very civilised! Apparently those on the picket lines are allowed to go into TV Centre to use the Foyer restaurant (if you've ever been to a BBC recording, it's the bar area where audiences are held) - so skinny lattes will be available.....

If it was on tape, it would have been edited out, or simply not used. Even the monkey working overnight can edit.

Radio don't put out pre-recorded news like TV do sometimes, even on a strike day. If they were going to though, they would have a line at the start of the bulletin that said it was not live.

Janice Long has begun her show (apparently without anyone to produce it) and presumably from a studio adjacent to the one Phil Williams has just left

She seemed quite pleased to be on-air Evil or Very Mad

Yep, its interesting how your opinions of people can be subtly altered in situations like this... I'll be amazed (and rather disappointed) if Alex Lester turn ups at 3am (or Wogan, Bruce, Jeremy Vine, etc).

It may be easier for higher profile presenters to stay away - I know Radio Kent have a couple of non-news shows being produced live tomorrow.

There must be a lot of split loyalties bubbling under the surface here. Janice Long, for example, sounds like she loves doing her show and has a real rapport with her listeners. I'm sure she supports the BBC staff who are on strike as well though - it must have been a difficult decision for her to break the picket line.

If I heard correctly, Akhtar Kahn gave a time check of 01:15 just then, as he recapped the headlines, even though this is going out on World. Presumably the time check is not on the autocue and he just said it without thinking

So, other than the Double weather on BBC One, and the dodgy headlines and presenter at 01:00 on News 24, are we saying that so far, 1 hour and 20 mins into this strike, there have been no major failures or anything directly blamed on the Strike Action (other than a histerical news pres on Five Live and a rubbish soprts pre-record)??

Seems like it, but as many people have been saying it is when they have new news in the morning that problems might occur. But, they will probably stick all day with 1 presenter on News 24 and World doing the top half hour, with very few lives and have pre-recorded programmes on the bottom half hour. So it may all be very low key.

Who controls what comes up on the screen behind Akhtar Kahn, as it is working perfectly, is it the director?
