It's as easy as pressing STOP on the machine playing the trail (or pulling the fader down)

I'm listening to Radio 1 at the moment and they just pulled some Chris Moyles trails twice a few seconds in after they had started and cut straight to a song (I take it it's rather difficult to yank a trail on radio?

How would they not know what's coming up? that's the point of a playlist!
It's a normal working practise to check everything before broadcasting it

Radio is easier to sort (my profession!!). If the trails are played out from a playlist then the studio peeps that are there won't know about it until it's on, and would need to crash out of it.

Not always, I don't stand there watching what is dropping into the queue for the jingles plays. Obviously dependant on what system is being used, a rotation logic, based on weight, given to whatever the promo is for would dictate how often a promo or liner is played out. So today I would expect a lot of Chris Moyles liners to have hit the rotation logic, if indeed that is the system that radio 1 use.

Yes, the computer selects what trail it is, but it shouldn't be a case of whoever's on just playing everything that appears without checking or questioning it.
If it came up with a trail that was really obviously not meant to be played.... you'd play it anyway becuase that's what the computer has queued up?

If I was on air now, at Radio 1 and they used Enco, or RCS (the systems I know how to use), then I would see that the trails that were associated to Chris Moyles pop into the queue, but I would have pre-empted that before I went on air by removing them from the random logic knowing what was happening tomorrow...

I did notice Chris didn't say see you Monday on Friday - although his closing jingle did (mainly I guess because they only have a tomorrow/Monday version!). Might have read too much into that at the time though.
Just seen the balloon during that ITV News report. I think we should start a campaign to bring it back...

It seems News 24's cameramen have already started to walk out. A strange view on Chris Lowe just then, or maybe its just me, I'll shut up.

It would be nice, but there's nae chance of the balloons coming back.
Possibly a new set of idents on a globe theme when the new controller starts.
