BBC News strike

Exactly, that's a very good point. We are all focusing on BBC News here, but the playout of most of the other programming through the day could run into trouble aswell, for example the Live Event at Chelsea Flower Show, and one of the papers is reporting that normal pre-recorded programming could be affected.

Maybe that aspect of the strike should be discussed in the other forum, but I think you could be right about the flower show, and I know that many of the BBC Broadcast staff playing out BBCs 1 to 4 will be walking out at midnight; the affect on the channels will depend on how many live programmes there are, how many alterations need to be made to the schedule and how many people can be persuaded to come in to replace those on strike.

For those watching in one of the nations other than England, you may well get Network from midnight; that will certainly be the case in Wales.

That's certainly a good point, I would hedge my bets that all the nations will go Network at 00:01. There's a film on BBC 1 until 00:50 followed by a weatherview and then at 00:55 News 24. It has come to my attention that this could be in jeapoardy, and going on the scale of the walkout that the NUJ expect from News24, it may well struggle overnight, so we'll have to wait and see.

If there's nobody in the playout suites, then how are they going to manage to get Wales Today (all 7 minutes of it) on air?

Luckily I bought a Freeview box for my bedroom today so i'll be able to watch News 24 easier. TBH, when I first heard about this strike I thought it was going to be a mini one like ITV's one earlier this year! Didn't know it was on this scale. Should be interesting viewing in just over 2 hours.

I've looked on the BBC schedules (online) and it looks like a normal schedule except it mentions it may be disrupted and changed due to industrial action.
Will we expect a dodgy intro into N24 and Breakfast on BBC ONE and does anyone know who is likely to be presenting?
From what I've heard it could be interesting to think that I'm getting the news from an editor, who we've never seen before, in one half hour and the next I'm playing along with Through The Keyhole or Call My Bluff at 7.30 in the morning!

So other media companies are supporting the striking journalists. I think that is a great show of support and solidarity throughout the industry.

Yeah either that or using the industrial action as a publicity stunt.

Just a reminder, it isn't just journalists - or indeed people who work for BBC News - who are going on strike tomorrow; it's members of BECTU, the NUJ and Amicus, who between them have about 10,000 members in all areas of the BBC, plus BBC Broadcast and BBC Resources.

Indeed for some reason everyone seems to be focusing on what will happen with News 24.

I would have thought what will happen with BBC News on BBC1, along with the rest of BBC1's output, regional news, live programming etc will be more important than News 24 showing a repeat of Hardtalk, which they do half the time anyway.

Given that we've seen it happen for short weekend bulletins recently, I reckon it's entirely possible that the 1/6/10 will just be simulcasts of the first 15 minutes of whatever News 24/World is coming up with.

I'll be here until just after one, so i'll update the thread with anything I learn. I'm covering the story for my respective org tonight, and then tomorrow daytime.

Sorry, I meant there would be no junctions on BBC ONE Wales OVERNIGHT from midnight (IIRC all three Nations normally cover junctions beyond midnight, on BBC ONE at least).

I'm sure there'll be someone in to put the 1825 and 2225 bulletins to air tomorrow.

I'm guessing Newsround is out of the question tomorrow. Not as easy to get a replacement presenter for a kids' news show I suppose.

If only Paxo would break the picket lines and give Molly from Kent a grilling as to why she thinks Hoodies are a baad thing Wink
