So five presenter positions are going. Who and where?

Doesn't sound like the BBC know yet:

There will be a review of the number of presenters we have and how they work

Perhaps they could have reviewed such things before the major announcement?

It's probably that they didn't have time to do it or it was a late addition to the plans. As you say the other bits are the major announcement, no point waiting until the minor details are decided when the bulk of it is decided

You wouldn't have been fired, you'd have been made redundant.

Maybe they should talk in terms of redundancies then. "Post closures" sounds like mealy-mouthed management speak to me.

It's not, it's actually what it is - the closure of a post

Not everyone whose post closes ends up being made redundant, a lot of the time they'll be redeployed into a vacant post if suitable. In fact I think that is BBC policy.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, I find it bizarre BBC staff wash their laundry, and provide a commentary of it on social media.

I guess that's the problem when the newsgatherer does something newsworthy.

Management may prefer to keep things 'in-house' but that's not the instinct of a journalist. They're there to report - especially when it's the public service newsgatherer.

Yes, though would the same happen at ITN, Sky, or any newspaper ?

Has no one told BBC management that linear TV is digital?

I find it strange the Victoria Derbyshire is surprised that a show on a linear channel is dropped because the viewing figures were low argues that she wasn't told to increase those figures. What was the point of it being on two TV channels at the same time it wasn't supposed to increase actual viewing figures on those channels.

Not to this degree, I grant you, but then those organisations are not the recipient of public funding.

Don't get me wrong - I do think the BBC go overboard with the amount of time they spend reporting on their own organisational affairs... but they are the country's primary public broadcaster and those who pay for it deserve to know - to some degree- how their 'investment' is being managed.

Of course, but I suggest viewers are more interested in the news of how many people will go rather than posts. Maybe it's impossible to say today, and that's why there is no number on it. Very sad for all those affected obviously.

Will be interesting to see how the move to greater digital output happens. I have found it a bit odd that you can't regularly view an individual report/package you've watched on a BBC One news programme on the News website. For example, I've sometimes seen a report on the Ten that I've thought would be of interest to others but more often than not it never appears online (other than on the iPlayer for 24 hours). I've seen some reports appear later the BBC News YouTube channel but not on the News website, so it's all a bit hit-and-miss.

Fran Unsworth currently being interviewed by Simon McCoy on Afternoon Live about the cuts. Or it's an episode of W1A, I'm not 100% sure.

Well this is turning into one of those "what a time to be alive" days! I'm guessing after that "showdown" that she will be one of the five Presenters going (if the NUJ Figures are right!)
