Therefore Graham's earnings from that show are bundled in and hidden in whatever figure is paid for the whole show, unlike Radio 2 and Eurovision where the BBC hire him directly.

The BBC Eurovision production is handled by BBC Studios - so if Graham is contracted directly to BBC Studios for that work - then it wouldn't be included, as 'The BBC' aren't hiring him directly.

However if Graham's overall BBC talent deal includes Eurovision, and he isn't paid by BBC Studios for work on that show, then it may be part of the publicised BBC pay details.

Whether talent is paid through the production company that makes a show, or directly by the broadcaster, isn't always a hard and fast rule - so you can't assume one or the other.

On the whole though the BBC seem to have far too many football presenters - used to be just 2 or 3 but now you have 4 people hosting over a standard weekend with no live games when really it could be 2.

In the seventies and early eighties, Bob Wilson would present Football Focus, Frank Bough or David Coleman would present Grandstand and Jimmy Hill would present Match of the Day. There was obviously no Sunday show, and the shows were shorter in those days. None of them were also presenting the equivalent shows on the radio on the other day of the weekend, like Mark Chapman does.

I would love to see you stand in for Lineker on a live programme and see how you get on.

The main reason he can demand such a high wage is that he covers all the bases. He's not only a successful sportsman in our most popular sport, with the knowledge and punditry to go with that, he's popular with audiences and has become a successful and professional live broadcaster. His experience and knowledge means he can do all of Alan Sherar or Mark Chapman jobs, but they can't do all of his. The list of people the BBC trust with high profile live programming is surprisingly short, but Linekar's name is on there, and it's not a list you get on by being an expensive diva with a big ego.

That said, whether his current wage is justified is a different matter and whether he provides value for money to the licence fee payer is even more contentious. I always wonder how much better off the BBC would be if they refused to deal with agents - organisations solely interested in getting the highest possible payment for their clients - and instead dealt directly with the talent.

'slebs pay amounts at the BBC is pissing in the sea compared with the Beeb's operating costs. I'm certainly not condoling the sums, and politically it might be said they are inappropriate given the current climate. Personally I don't care much for Gazza L, he can go and live on a Carribean Island with Carrie Gracie, YMMV

Daily Mail carrying a very similar story, although still referring to the £80M cuts. Also mentions Today and News at Ten.

BBC personalities salaries are minute compared to the overall BBC budget - just look at the figures. The BBC annual income from the licence fee and their commercial arm companies amounted to in 2019 to £4.8 billion - yes billion.

Some of the off the record quotes “The BBC has got to show that it is doing some tough stuff” suggest it has been briefed by management.

Why are you adding the total turnover (before costs) of BBC Studios formely BBC Worldwide to the licence fee? BBC Studios returned 200m to the BBC last year.
You clearly haven't a clue what you're talking about.

Excuse me - I just quoted the annual income figures of the BBC - I did not state expenses, costs etc, I just explained what the total income was. Enough of the bully boy tactics, as it does not work on me.
